How many of you have a favorite hosta, that you consider really wonderful, that doesn't seem to be widely grown in our little hosta world? Mine is 'War Paint' which I consider my most beautiful hosta.

It does have one characteristic that some may not like... it is viridescent (turns all green later in the season).
But it's also a gorgeous green hosta because of its prominent veining and beautiful rippled edges.
It's early in February, but I can hardly wait for Spring when I will be out in the Hosta Glade every morning anxiously watching for those first shoots to appear as if by magic!

War Paint is a beautiful hosta, Goodness Gracious is my favorite it looks very different depending on the sun and where it is in the season. I rarely see it.

I have War Paint and love it. Two years ago I got Bridal Falls which is another Niagara Falls sport. It is fabulous!

Those are some beauties. I will keep a eye on this post and see what I can find. It seems so many only buy and talk about the latest hostas. Many that are not as hardy and vigorous as the old timers. I did not think you could. kill a hosta until these new sensitive hosta hit the market.

Here's another interesting one that I got from Jim's Hostas a few years ago. 'Sail Ho' The early spring colors are gorgeous! It still keeps it's lighter leaves on the new growth later in the season, but the mature leaves tend to turn greener.

'Cutting Edge' is one I don't see discussed much. It's larger than the registration size and is a hosta with lots of "attitude". A few pictures from last August - Zone 5a. To give you an idea of size, in the 3rd picture it's bordered by 'Aristocrat', 'Gemini Moon', 'Alligator Shoes'. 'Undulata Univittata', and an unidentified Heuchera.

No idea of the name , but it is special to me since it is a division of a plant that has been in the family for close to 50 years. This one is just about the first plant I put in when I bought my house 30 years ago.

I've always liked 'My Claire' which is a lovely small hosta.

Mine this year, appears to have one eye that is developing a wider margin. Will be keeping an eye on it.
