I was outside having tea about two weeks ago during an unusually warm day 62, and a honey bee came and lit on my chair.
I don't see many honey bees in my garden , mostly only in the fall. Just figured there are not any keepers near me, so I have no idea where he may have come from.

anyway I was just wondering is there something I should have out for the bees in winter?
I already feed the birds and other wildlife over winter.

You could put out a bowl of sugar water. 2 parts of sugar and 1 part water. Bees only fly when it's above 50 degrees. Be careful where you put it once the bees find it they will be a lot of them. You wouldn't want to get stung because you put it to close to the front door.

You can also make a herbal sugar syrup.
If you Google herbal syrup recipe es for honey bees you will find some instructions for making one.
The ones I seen used chamomile and or thyme and lemongrass

I have a native bumble bee nest in my back yard.
I would like to keep them as they are great pollinators.
Would they use the same sugar/herb mixes?

Bumblebees are way more efficient at gathering pollen and nectar than honey bees. That can fly when it is colder and wetter. That being said I really don't know what you would feed them but I don't think you have to. That are really good at what they do.

According to what I found bumble bees do not need feeding because they hibernate during winter.
Honey bees do not hibernate so they need food.

Just keep in mind the honey bees will take the sugar watewr and make some use of it till it get down to the 50F mark. Once it gets there they will still be flying on sunny days but will not touch the syrup.

Also keep in mind with the open feeding station they will be competting with the wasp (yellow jackets) plus you will have the yellow jackets in the area till it gets cold and they all die except the queens.

If you put out the sugar water, you need to cover the bottom of the contain with rocks so the bees won't drown.
