We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in February 2017" in Orchids forum

Today we have the first day of March, so we need a new thread!
We had so far a fairly mild Winter here in the NE and one can actually see already some Crocus popping up in protected spots.

This Paph Crown Jewel is blooming for me for the first time and I think it needs more light next year. The buds face downwards and I found it impossible to straighten them out without perhaps snapping them. I was hoping it would at least develop the dorsal a little better. But, this one has Winston Churchill in its parentage and I am partial to this type of Paph.

And there is this tiny flowered Trichoglottis acutifolia.

Now I have posted this Dendrobium anceps, when it just started up. This plant hangs this year in a warmer spot near one of the heating vents and it seems to like it. I absolutely flood it daily, making sure the roots get soaked, since it dries up very fast.

Then there a bunch of odds and ends -
Ctna/Guaritonia Why Not blooms here and there most of the time

Vanda lamellata is really holding on to those blooms for a couple of months now

Beautiful start to March, Ursula. Allow me to add a few.

Guaricattonia [Gct.] Lawless Gloriana 'Yellow'. Usually orange but I have a yellow variety, growing nicely on cork.

This is a very compact grower and looks like it will stay window sill size for some time.

I'm hoping that I can find a reasonably priced orchid or two at the Chicago Garden show later this month.

Nice show Jim & Ursula!

Ted, you got one of those very rare 'jumping' orchids! You'd better hang on to that one! Rolling on the floor laughing I love your white coelogyne!

Ursula, how much light does your anceps get? Mine is under the oak tree & only gets filtered light...it's not even starting to bloom, though it did last year. Mine is not nearly as huge as yours either! Yours is awesome!

That's a great name on yours Jim...isthatso! Wonder how they came up with that?? Hilarious!

Very pretty new orchids Lindsey!

New bloomer for me today is my little 'bag baby' Latouriate dendrobium. No name on this one but it did have a big picture tag so I know it's supposed to have some dark red markings in the throat. So far, mine are very white, but there are the faintest traces way, way in there, I think. Maybe as they mature? It's a small plant and the flowers are only about an inch across.

Ted, that is a wonderful and surely super rare Coelogyne!
And, bread shopping well done! Thumbs up

Patty, my greenhouse is very bright with its glass ceiling, so the Dendrobium anceps gets several hours of sunlight, right now mainly in the afternoon. In Summer outside I have it somewhat protected from noon time sun. This is a really thirsty plant, I flood it daily!

Elaine, nice Dendie!

My Den. anceps is up in the top of the cage too, but probably not getting enough water. It has lots of new growths but they're not elongating much. Guess I'll have to put it out where I can see it every day to give it a douse.

Except for two tiny grocery store phals, this is my one and only flowering plant. This little kingianum bloomed several times during the winter of 15/16 but this is the first time since last summer that I am seeing flowers. There are more spikes but they are tiny still.

Ted, how brave of you to leave that plant on the shelf while you turned your back on it...luckily, it jumped into YOUR cart and not someone else'! What beautiful markings on it.

Elaine..that Den. is very pretty with the faint magenta in there...reminds me of an old fashioned white Peony, with the tiny pink accents.

Alice, your kingianum looks to be very happy...great color on the leaves and who doesn't love a little spotted lip like that?
I was taking some photos today of one of the plants I got for Kathy,,the buds just opened so I wanted to share with her..and noticed that the flower form on my Jfk. Joseph's Dream Coat had changed as the flower is maturing.. This one has some nice markings and is VERY fragrant!

Yet another nice bloom plus a bud coming along on B. nodosa 'Yellow Bird'. I just love the colors on this one, as it changes from this, through all the stages of yellow to gold.
