I could be wrong, there are other kinds of Crinums besides the ones I have that I've seen bloom, but what else might it be, if anything else? Bigger than a softball, leaves up to 3 ft. long (so far,) didn't defoliate like the known Crinums a few feet away. Had 3 years & no bloom yet. Granted, the dirt in this spot is terrible. I'm working on it. Thanks for looking & TIA for any suggestions.

Sure looks like some type of Crinum to me. Bigger than a softball also sounds like a Crinum. Mine don't defoliate, tho. Seems like it took a couple years before it bloomed. And then it started having babies. What I have is an Ellen Bosanquet.

Or . . . could it be an Amaryllis? I think they might be related.

I was out in the yard today and saw something just like yours except mine was potted, so to speak. I eyeballed it for awhile, thinking, 'Hmmm, where did that come from?' Then I remembered that a katydid had munched the leaves on one of my plants and I moved it (the plant, not the katydid) to a far corner. I'm pretty sure the plant was a crinum. A baby that I'd given a new home.

TYVM! There are various species (& cultivars thereof) of Crinums & I'm at a loss to compare them beyond a handful of bulbs I was given a couple years ago that are definitely Crinums, but no idea which. It's possible this is one of larger stature that's slightly more hardy.

Looks like a Crinum to me also. I have the 'Queen Emma' and most of the offspring from the bulbs that form on the flower stalks end up solid green.

I was reading about crinums on the internet which we know to be the source of all truth in the universe. So anyway, there were several reports of crinum bulbs the size of basketballs as well as weighing 20 lbs. Yikes!

I'm pretty sure that's a crinum. It looks big enough to bloom, but some are better bloomers than others. Also, they do not like to be disturbed. They will sometimes take a few years to bloom after being moved. I would work some good compost into the soil around it and give it some liquid seaweed. This will help the roots settle in. They bloom best after a good soaking rain.

I will put some compost around it & some compost tea. I don't have a budget for the seaweed stuff but appreciate the suggestion!

I was looking for pics of the actual bulbs but didn't find much but a few pics of tiny ones. After a couple years I'm sure I don't remember enough to compare anyway, and I'm not disturbing it again to get another look. Should have taken my own pic then, but like what probably happens with others, it's a dirty-hands/camera-not-with-me moment when bulbs are being moved around.
