I'm thinking this is a relative of the 'Pregnant Onion,' but beyond that, I'm clueless! Hilarious!

Maybe an Albuca.

Hurray! I googled Albuca and came across A. polyphylla 'Augrabies Hills' and it looks just like mine!

It says winter grower, which I understand Haworthias are as well (if I remember correctly...). I guess I'll just throw it outside when I can and experiment!

Thank You!

I also saw an entry for Albuca polyphylla, I will have to submit a picture as there doesn't appear to be one.

Thanks for uploading the pic to the database. I was told that I have an Albuca humilis. Your plant looks very similar to mine, but I was not aware that these two species look so similar. Maybe someone can help us out.

I could be completely wrong on my own ID (which wouldn't be a first Hilarious! ), in which case I'll have the pictures removed/moved to the appropiate species. I have found IDing plants within some genera difficult because certain species look almost identical.

Drooling Oh my, I didn't realize they could take on such an onion look with the peeling on the bulb. And they're so large! Drooling

You probably couldn't confuse it with the one with the curly top. One down, 159 to go. Smiling

Let us know when it blooms, Hamwild. A. Humilis supposedly smells amazing (like marzipan, according to Wiki). Perhaps the same is true for polyphylla.

I will! There was one near it in bloom a couple weeks ago (but I didn't think to smell it D'Oh! ). Let's hope I don't manage to kill it before then. *Blush*

Does your Albuca go dormant in Summer?

I think it grows year round here. We're in the tropical/sub-tropical zone. I think there may have been a nice list of winter succulents somewhere on NGA.
Also, because haworthias and albucas are both South African, it's possible that the dormancy period is reversed down in the Southern Hemisphere.
Out of curiosity, I did a time-lapse video of my albucas a few days ago indoors under an LED grow lamp. The leaves wiggled around quite a bit. It was sort of endearing.

I was curious considering your location. I'm all ears!

That is interesting! Mine looked so droopy when I purchased it and it has since perked up considerably! Apparently it likes me. Lovey dubby

Hi everyone, I am new to this site so this will be my first post. Can anyone tell me what conditions an Albucus Himius requires both in the summer & the winter. Smiling
