Sowed some 2013 seeds - soaked over night and then placed on wet paper towel. Seven of the twelve seeds have germinated Hurray!
Looking forward to having night fragrance --- going to add them with the scarlet bean runners.

Betsy, I have a question. Did your moonflower seeds need to be cold stratified before you soaked them overnight? Also how long did you have them on wet paper towels before they germinated?

Good idea! I've had some success soaking them & then nicking them - waiting for new guys to start in our new garden - I've got 'em mixed with sweet peas. I love fragrants that bloom at night!

I have grown these the first year this year. The vine itself is healthy and has grown well. I think it liked the moisture by a downspout. I don't think it got enough sun and it only started blooming about 2 weeks ago.

What I'm finding odd is that the blooms don't open late afternoon as I'd hoped. I've checked them as late as midnight and they are still closed but the fading flower is still open in the morning until about noon. Is this normal?

Unfortunately I have not noticed a fragrance either?

I had them growing vigorously during the winter in our low desert home. There they bloomed near dusk, stayed open until the following noon, filled the little area with the faintest of Moonflower scent. A year ago now, I moved our little garden and am waiting for new plants to grow in. Mine don't get enough good sun either but I'm now starting to see new growth. My goal is Moonflowers & Morning Glories happy together, no overpowering or invading!

Good luck!
