Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Mynelle's Starfish')

As with many of my daylilies, last year was its first full season in my yard, so it might not be the best evaluation of the flower, but here goes...

I got this for the big blooms on short scapes and this one was really short! It probably bloomed with 10" or shorter scapes. There were only a few blooms, but I did hybridize with it. I don't think any of the pollinated blooms on it took (I'll try to remember to come back with stats later), but it did pollinate a few other plants. I don't think it was a high pollination rate, but I don't think it was terrible, either. Again, I'll try to post stats later.

As for bloom color, it was definitely the creamier color (not as yellow as some of the pictures) for me. I grow it up north and it is planted in a rich mixture of compost and top soil (and peat?), In a slightly raised garden bed smooshed in with other plants. It may have lacked full sun due to the plants next to it.

As for shape, it holds really well and the substance was really good. It's a fun-looking little plant that I really like.

When I grew Mynelle's Starfish I remember it to be a cream color....not yellow. Stems were short. I remember some discussion at the time that it was the same day lily as Mormon. Pictures look very similar.

Paul, what an interesting factoid! I didn't know there was speculation that it was another cultivar.

If I may say so, from the limited resources I have, I don't believe it is the same flower. Judging from pictures only, 'Mormon' doesn't appear to have the same substance as Mynelle's Starfish (it almost looks crepe-y, even) and, while it has the same sort of shape, Mynelle's Starfish has a very consistent appearance on the edges across all of my blooms--more pinching and definitive shape--that the picture of Mormon doesn't have.

It's possible those variations are location-based--or even that the consistently pinched petals on mine are--but I'm also wondering if it's possible that someone once thought they had Mormon and actually had Mynelle's Starfish.

I bought and planted this daylily in 2013. I had a couple of very low in the foliage blooms the first season and have never seen another. In the winter of 2015, the harsh conditions nearly killed it. However, it did not rebound last summer and did not increase much at all. Still a single fan. Unless I see significant increase this season in the beginning, it will come out to make room for a more robust cultivar. I don't love it enough to baby it through another season.

Can have beautiful blooms (very pleasing color), but the scapes here were unbelievably short and the plant not vigorous. Didn't take time for it to leave here (actually, I think it left on its own).

A little late to the party here! I've had it for at least 10 years now, it has been slow to increase, short scrapes and few buds. I'm in zone 6a Canada, south western Ontario. The flowers here are more of a cream colour as well. I've been meaning to try using it but since it is in bloom for such a short period I usually miss the opportunity. I'm probably going to find it another home as I have no room left for non performers.
