Hi Tina,

I just saw this thread but posted a comment earlier to one of your database photos.

There are two Impatiens species in your photos.

The yellow Impatiens flowers near the top of this photo look like Impatiens pallida rather than I. capensis. The orange Impatiens flowers near the center of the photo look like Impatiens capensis. In addition to the color difference, Impatiens pallida has smaller and more numerous serrations on the leaf margins.

Pale Jewelweed (Impatiens pallida)

It's a gorgeous patch of Impatiens! I bet the hummingbirds and bees love it. Lovey dubby

Thanks Danita for the clarification. I will check to make sure the photo's either include both, or remove the Pallida. I purposely plant for the Hummingbirds in my garden, so was thrilled with this wild thing. Hope it reseeds. A lot! Tina

It will!!! The seedpods sort of EXPLODE when ripe, flinging seeds for some distance. I have a really big patch of it in one corner now, including all over a gravel area. However, it's easy to either pull up (shallow roots) or break off the crisp, juicy stems. As a kid, I put the juice from the stems on mosquito bites, too.
