I just started working at a school and teacher I work with has a "class plant". This plant is a gymnocalycium mihanovichii (or at least that's what the label reads). I arrived and this plant was pretty much dead. It's stem has pretty much broken completely in 2, aside from a small area still holding on. Most of the stem has lost it's color and moisture, but the bulb remains brightly colored and healthy looking; to me, anyway. If anyone would be able to give me pointers on how to bring it back to life, I would be soo appreciative. I would even take tips on how to maybe propogate what is left over into a new healthy plant if that is possible. Thanks in advance!!

PS... I will comment with pictures of the plant as soon as I get back within cell phone service.

That grafted plant is really not meant to last long. Two different succulents with varying watering needs.

The top part will not be able to survive on its own, if you want you can try and graft it to another cacti. Try to watch these videos, it explains extensively about cacti grafting and which is a better rootstock for that gymnocalycium.

I would toss it and get a new class plant. Pothos is sold everywhere and very tolerant. It's much more likely to live a long time and become impressive, not sad.
Plant it and they will come.
