Lovely Bells from Easy to Grow Bulbs. Pretty small red flowers on a scape that always has 5 buds instead of 4. Bloom becomes more ruffled as it ages.

Your Minerva should be in full bloom by now. Clever way of staking the scape.

Happy Monday to all!

My Amaryllis is finally actively in bloom! But then again, it seems it is not a Minerva. I just went with the name it came in the box, but now that it is in bloom, it does not show any white throat...can someone help me ID this lovely Amaryllis?

Tarev

Im not an expert but it looks a little on the oranger side then pink or red so i say

Thumb of 2011-12-12/chefmike92/a4dd91 Ludwigs-Golith if petals are a bit rounder and full open curl back a bit
Thumb of 2011-12-12/chefmike92/4a78b5 Bouquet if the petals are bit more pointy and don't curl back

i had those but sold all before bloom to have true pics
if it is a bit more red then i see or when opens up could be olaf but there stems are mostly short
post when full open and is there any more spikes coming up? where did you get the bulb?

I bought the bulb on 19Nov2011 from a local Orchard Supply Hardware store. The box it came in is distributed by Van Zyverden, Inc. and it says product of Israel. Looking at the flower, it seems red orange on the outside but deeper reddish on the inside. I do not see any other spikes coming up. Just 3 more buds on the same stalk getting ready to bloom.

Here is a close-up of the first bloom:

that is a wholesale bulb and plant company and Israel is a interesting place for the bulbs to be coming from most "forcing" bulbs for Christmas flowering are southern hemisphere most Africa and brasil but who knows now days. There is a big import of holland flowers to they are usually more specialty bulbs and take longer to grow and open. the best thing is to give it several more days to fully open and reveal its true color and shape. but it is a nice one.

Reds are the toughest ones to ID, and they are the hardest to photograph. You need to post a photo when the flower is fully mature. One thing to check is the color of the style and filaments of the reproductive parts. Some cultivars have white, some have pink or red styles and filaments. Also look deep in the throat. I don't know the exact term, but what does it look like. White outline, red outline, or no outline around the base of the reproductive parts, this is also used in IDing the cultivar. Recently, Israel has become a major grower of Amaryllis bulbs. It is always frustrating when you receive a mislabeled bulb. In the past it was the most common complaint of customers. I wish that mail order companies would wise up and do their part to stop this practice.

if you see the plant where it has flowered 2 stems already and a 3 stem is growing much taller that is difference from having them in the sun to keep short and letting the 3 stalk grow in the house if you look real close in the third tip it has some color because i had in sun for a few days when it just started sprouting just fyi
