My whole backyard is tore up with moles (I think). There isn't a place to step without stepping on a hill. Last year i used an emitter but it didn't phase them. I guess it's moles but I haven't seen them. I'm at a loss about what to do. Whatever it is has to be cheap.

In my experience (and I fight moles constantly), the spring traps need realy soft oil, the emitters do not work, and I won't use poison because I have 3 cats would eat any that were dying aboveground.

I'm trying castor oil to repel the moles and milky spore to kill off their main grub food source.

But moles aren't really the problem. Moles don't eat plant roots. Voles do. And voles use the mole tunnels to run around in. So I'm trying to get rid of the moles to get rid of the voles.

We have hard clay soil but it's looser where the moles have just pushed up their runs. Those traps work as advertised, cost comparable to poison worms , and unlike the worms are reusable. Repelling them is only temporary since they just move, temporarily, somewhere else in the yard or into neighboring yards.
