I thought I would start a new thread for those who have received seedlings from Bob Griesbach's field. I know there isn't much to enter here yet but I will get started with the current status of my seedlings.

This is just a small sample of what I received. They are all planted in several areas of my gardens. Right now it is mostly the Asiatics that are well up. The orienpets are just now nosing through.

I didn't get any asiatics. All OTs but I think one asiatic might have snuck in.

I can't wait to see what comes of this thread over the year. I have a couple of the Griesbach material poking nosing up right now. Few and far between though as mine are all still under straw right now. Thank you for sharing Connie

Connie - thanks for starting this thread. All mine are still asleep but will be glad to share what grows from the bulbs I received. I have all OT & Aurelian.

I'm looking forward to your photos, Patrick. I asked for OTs and Asiatics and that is what I got. Lots to "play" around with!

I received a mix of trumpet, OT and asiatic. Just poking up, a lot of them, now. There was a whole lot of beauty in those fields. Great idea to post pics in its own thread.

I checked out the spot I planted the Griesbach bulbs I received. I have some green stems poking up and through. Quite excited for them to reveal themselves!!

The Griesbach lilies are coming up. Excitement sets in...

I can't weed in there yet because things keep popping up. I can't risk squashing anyone.

How about this guy? Planted within the fence and decided to go it alone, on the outside. The Outsider.

I put a color coded stake behind each bulb but many bulbs did not cooperate. Some came up inches away...

Always a rogue in the garden. I use to take time to plant in nice groupings. Usually in trios. But do the stems come up that way? Nope. I always have one that seems to travel underground before it emerges

I planted some Griesbach bulbs lining a retaining wall. Going with the curve of it. Drilled holes with a bulb auger. Still have some that came up inches away. Some as much as 6-8 inches. Same as Connie. but I'm sure once it blooms, I'll be happy and glad to see it.

I tried to plant mine in straight lines like corn. I should know better. I am terrible at straight lines. I got to the end, string or no string and it's all messed up.

The stems in this plastic tote are from the smallest bulbs, most about an inch or less in diameter. After the first rains last fall I thought I had them covered so that no more rain would get in but the next thing I knew the soil was really saturated, soggy. I tilted the box up for drainage through two large holes (using a spade blade) I drilled on just one end of the box. Then I made sure I had it covered real good to keep water out; no more water and I have yet to add water. It all worked, as you can see! Some flopped over but I leave them alone fearing stem breakage at the bulb.


These are the largest bulbs, some of the Asiatics show a bud or two.



Now these should be the in between sized bulbs, around 1.5 inches in diameter. Only six have come up and I fear the rest lost to our winter rains/flooding. They should have come up by now.
Looking down two rows front to back, should be approximately 20 bulbs in there.


I have massive losses from the rain as much of my backyard was intermittently under water all winter into spring. Goners include Gloriana, Golden Sceptor, Summer Palace, a number of my S-2s from Sim's seed, some Tropical Isles, Bellingham Star, and Beauty Supreme . I'm sure there are more I haven't figured out yet.

Sorry to hear about your water damage, Connie. Your pictures show of health and vigor though. What you have there looks amazing.

I planted every last remaining scale in my buckets (from the dig). Even ones that looked hopeless. Have lots of areas with little baby lilies. The scales seemed to produce as well. My hope is that not only will this year be full of surprises, but also future years. Grateful.

Second picture again, might need to zoom in, but they are along the contour of the retaining wall. Some decided not to follow the contour though.
