Siloam Merle Kent was one of the first daylilies I got many, many years ago. Surprisingly...I only have one picture of it Confused (Very unusual for me.)

I'm very fond of DL's with a light rib like most of the pictures in the database. However, my picture doesn't have that strong looking rib. Other than that, the height and bloom size is just as the registered information. It produces a lot of blooms. Don't have any specifics, but I recall every year deadheading SMK a LOT.

I planted this one in May of 2016 so I have very little info on it. It was on the $5. table at our club plant sale. It is a small one, front of the bed and you can see the buds on it for such a young plant. It is growing now so did survive the winter here. I expect to enjoy this one for years to come.

This is a great smaller blooming daylily. I have had this one for many years and I have had to divide it a lot. It is a very consistent bloomer. I can't ever think of a year where I had a bad bloom from it. It clumps up very rapidly. I have given a lot of it away as well as selling some to keep the clump from getting too large. Like Sue said, it can be a chore deadheading it every day but I will always have this one in my garden. I have not every used it in hybridizing but maybe I should give it a try. I know it will not set pods but pollen I believe is fertile. It is a nice plant for front of the border. I have it planted in my rock garden.

I've grown this little daylily for many years. It has not been given special attention except for weeding and fertilizing (normal garden care). Blooms photograph somewhat differently as to coloring depending of course on lighting conditions; such as sun, full sun, shade & partial shade. Overall it has become a favorite and very worth while. Below are some pictures illustrating my photo attempts of Siloam Merle Kent.

I don't know if they are sisters, but one of my favorite smaller flowered daylilies is Addie Branch Smith. Siloam Merle Kent is almost a twin. The differences lie in bloom production and vigor. Most of my daylilies are grown in pots, so this report is with that culture in mind. Addie Branch is the more vigorous of the two. I've divided her over and over and over again. She blooms well, and, as with her "kin" Merle, her color combines with so many other colors that I can't imagine being without her. Siloam Merle Kent blooms in large flushes. Addie Branch Smith blooms longer but with fewer booms at one time. This year I almost lost Siloam Merle Kent to our erratic winter temperatures. Addie Branch did fine. My advice is to try them both. Each has its own merits...Maryl

@Maryl I don't have SMK, but when I saw the pics, my first thought was that it does look a lot like ABS...

Mine thrives on neglect. Always reliable for blooms and growth.
