Thread OP

We use chicken poop to fertilize our vegetable garden. If chicken poop is good , would dog poop be good too ? Why and why not ?

I've always heard that dogs carried parasites that we might pick up.
You're used to the smell of chicken poop, so... Maybe the smell of dog poop wouldn't bother you, but the rest of us would be grossed out.
My cats poop in the garden, and that doesn't bother me.... But lots of people don't want cat poop in their veggies either, it might be a personal choice...

While we're experimenting.... Maybe have a look at what this dude thinks is the best composting toilet... Apparently burying human poop in the compost pile is something we should all consider....

Hi Bill and Welcome!
You have an important question, and I have heard it before from other gardeners.
Rule of thumb, I don't fertilize with any manure from an animal that is a meat eater. That manure can transmit parasites and infectious diseases.
I also never put "fresh" manure in my vegetable, perennial or annual garden; I always compost it for 6 months minimum. Chicken manure is pretty hot (potent) stuff, so composting would be a good thing.
If I am working acreage, I'll broadcast fresh steer manure in the fall, knowing I will be plowing and planting in June of the next year (the six month time-frame).

I'm with Kathy.
Also ! Human. Dog. Cat. Manure. Also has heavy metals in it, that will also be taken up by plants. It will all end up in your veges.
