It is May 1. and with that we need a new thread for the month!
We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in April 2017" in Orchids forum

Let me start with my Vandachostylis Viboon Velvet, flowering now in the greenhouse, but waiting for warmer nights to be placed outside for the Summer.

This tiny Asctm or Vanda garayi was giving up its soul, but before it had a chance to grace the compost pile it managed to produce two small keikis.

and Brassidium Shooting Star 'Mustard' does its yearly thing with 2 spikes this year.

Please all join in and chat away! Smiling

Nice Ursula, that reminds me I've still got the one Phal keiki that I need to remove some day. It seems to have slowed down root production but I think that's because there are other ones being produced on the same. I'll have to post a photo or two to see what feedback I can get as far as removal.

I agree The roots are so fat and healthy on that plant. I can;t get any roots to grow on my one vanda - but I see where it is getting another leaf. Sighing!

Those roots get flooded daily with rain water and the plant hangs year around in full sun, a must for my location. Smiling

I'm so excited Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! and I just can't stand it! Isn't this the most charming flower? This is the beauty Jim gifted me with and I love it. D@mn critters got one of the spikes but I managed to save the other one. I've been bringing it in and out of the house depending on the weather. In when it is too hot and out when it is nice. When I saw black spots on the buds I panicked and thought it might be mildew but it turns out the spots are supposed to be there, they just show through the petals. D'Oh! Never noticed that.

Wow, Jim gave you such a sweet treasure, Alice.

Let's hope we all get some rain from this next system coming through, and then the critters won't be so desperate for food and water as to eat the orchid buds.

I have hardly any buds left on my little Enc. tampensis out on the oak tree this year. There were quite a few a week or two ago, and they're disappearing. I can't protect that one, as it's firmly attached to the oak branch now.

I went back and edited the post to add the name.

One of my neighbors came by with an orchid, sans pot, she had found in the street while walking her dog. Looks like one of the bag babies. Frustration......
