Thinking of purchasing this plant but visited the data base to look at images and there is so much variation in the pictures I have to ask .........Will the real Red Sapphire please stand up ! Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Red Sapphire')

If you know anything about this plant can you please confirm the real image . Thanks all help is appreciated

I would say that the true colour would go more to the peach than the lavender. That is just my opinion from looking at the photos since I don't own this plant. However, the photos that look more lavender have blue looking foliage, so that would lead me to believe that the tint of the photo is leaning to blue.

I do not grow it but have seen it in his garden. I would say peach/salmon pink. Have you seen his pics on his blog? If you go back far enough(2009), you can see his evaluation of it while it was still a seedling and several different pictures.

I've never had anything resembling lavender. But low-light photos do have a slight lavender tint.

This is how it bloomed for me. I was very disappointed in the plant and the blooms. It dwindled to nothing and finally died.

I inquired about Red Sapphire from Bill Maryott two years ago. He actually steered me away from it because it had 'bad plant habits'. The picture on his website was beautiful, but I took his advice and did not purchase.

This was Bill Maryott's description in his catalog: "This cultivar has the most impressive branching and bud count I have seen. Sometimes close to 50 buds in California."

Did he indicate in any way just what those bad plant habits might be?

I can't remember his exact words regarding Red Sapphire, but he discouraged me purchasing. His comments definitely did not coincide with the catalog description. He actually recommended Charming Kayla and Calamity Jane instead.. I passed on Charming Kayla for Calamity Jane. He sent Charming Kayla as a bonus . Calamity Jane bloomed within a weeks of receiving it and Charming Kayla has not bloomed. Both were from a fall 2016 order.

I wonder if perhaps your zones are wrong for this plant. It says minimum zone 4a but doesnt state a maximum zone.

I loved the picture on his website and would have purchased it, if Bill had not advised against it. Not sure how it would have performed in my zone but I took his verbal advice, rather than the catalog description. But, Calamity Jane has scapes now and the blooms were beautiful in the fall. I think I made a good choice.

I've noticed that a lot of cultivars have pictures that look totally different. My pic of Mineral Springs. another plant that I got from Maryott's, looked totally different than the others in the data base. I had to email the pic to him to verify that I indeed had Mineral Springs. As noted in some other threads, the soil, fertilizer, amount of water and sunlight can all effect the bloom. The camera settings can also have an effect on the picture.
