I have lived here going on four years, but this year I noticed a green bulb by one of my oak trees so I watered it out of curiosity and now it's growing little pinkish white and green petaled tiny flowers that appear to be orchids. Does anyone know what this could be? I am wondering where it came from too as there was nothing there for years.

They are orchids. Where are they located (besides at the base of an oak tree). That's pretty cool.

Thanks Daisyl, they are in Sarasota Florida. Yes it is pretty cool since I have had orchids in the past but usually kill them while they are potted, even the orchids they say are supposed to be easy. I guess I can do better getting them grow outside accidentally. Hopefully someone can tell me what kind of orchid this is I am really curious.

Looks like Chinese Crown Orchid (Eulophia graminea) I had one identified a few months ago; it sprouted in my sisters yard here in Sebastian.

Oh, it is a pretty little thing but apparently invasive here in Florida! :sad:

Yes, I've been finding those in veggie beds at our school garden, too. (I'm also in Sarasota) They seem to seed themselves really easily, and pop up everywhere there is water.

By all means pick the flowers and enjoy indoors, but don't let them go to seed, and yank out the bulb, too.
