Sixteen chitted Yukon Gold Potatoes were planted in the outdoor garden. They were chitted in pots in the greenhouse for about a month to establish strong early roots. Plant spacing was one foot center to enter and row spacing was 2 feet. Each plant was marked with a stake to facilitate digging, since the vegetation will be completly gone come harvest. Expectation is about six pounds per plant.

I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to why my Yukon Gold failed so miserably this year. I bought my seed potatoes from a reputable source, and I do try to rotate my vegetable crop at least every four years. Previously had great success with this variety. I chitted the seeds and planted them out in early April. They all sprouted well and looked healthy, I mounded up the rows as normal, but a few weeks later the plants started to die. They are now all dead and have not produced a crop. I don't know if I did anything wrong, but I would appreciate any ideas as to what went wrong

Yukon Gold in North Carolina will mature in June. Have you dug up the plants and are sure there are no potatoes. There are blights and insects that destroy potatoes but for most of us fairly rare. Nitrogen and/or shade are leading causes of huge vines with poor set. They need full sun and more P and K than N.
