I bought most of my irises three years ago from a friend who has won prizes for her irises in S. California shows. She gave me the registered names of all those I bought, but I lost the name for this one and can't find anything similar online. I love the velvety violet falls. The shade makes them look slightly darker than they really are.

It just opened today, is 36" tall, has a very light fragrance. 1/3 of my irises have bloomed so far, so does that make it early/mid season? (I'm in zone 6b. We have a three-month growing season, starting about now.)

Edit maybe not: the edge of the standards looks different.

Close, but too white, I think. Or is that important? (just learning about irises)

The standards on mine are very light violet, more purple than pink. It may be hard to tell that in the photo.

Maybe I should give it a couple of days to mature, since it just opened this morning. The standards will change, and the color will probably lighten more. Thanks for the response!

Yes, your right, too white. Someone posted a link not long ago about growing conditions and color. Let me see if I can find it.

I took another shot at it. I hadn't noticed the gold edging on the standards until this shot.

That's interesting, Iciris. I will wait a few days and see if I discern any color change. I did notice, during my search, one iris description that included information that the standards became whiter as it opened up further, so perhaps it does happen. I have noticed hue changes in my other irises, as well -- probably because as soon as they open, I'm out there taking pictures, and later on I do again, and the color appears slightly redder or bluer, lighter or darker, etc.

If (big if?) slight color change does occur, perhaps this is the one I am looking for: "Snowed In." It has the gold edging on the standards that I've been looking for. This iris of mine is in shade a lot of the day, and my cell phone camera isn't always perfect at translating color, especially in shade, so it makes it hard to tell. The first is "Snowed In," the second is my mystery iris.

I'm just a novice, but SunnyBorders posted this on the "Iris" thread and I thought it was well written and with a lot of good information.

Bit of advice: Bloom season is crazy busy on this forum and if you do not get an id on an iris, you might want to try again later when things calm down a bit and people have more time to read and respond to posts.

Sorry misspelled should be Kool Bre's

Yes they are both very close in appearance. Snowed In blooms from early to late, and Kool Bre's' has a mid late bloom, if that is any help.
