Lin, that is a great list. Perhaps you should also post it in the "All Things Garden" forum, vacationers from out of state may welcome the ideas. I always search for gardens when I travel.

Alice, I too search for gardens to visit when planning a vacation and I'd love to see every State Forum with a list of Arboretums and Botanical Gardens in their area!

You can copy and past the Florida list over on the All Things Gardening Forum if you want but unless it's made into a *sticky* or put into the info box on the right side of a page, it gets lost in the thread. Those interested in vacationing in Florida can always access the list on the main page of the Florida Gardening Forum.

Scot, I look forward to you photos from Sunken Gardens! I hope you will start a thread soon with photos of your visit! I went to Sunken Gardens back around 1970 when my husband and I lived in St. Pete briefly before he got drafted. I remember it being a fabulous place then and I bet it's gotten even better over the years.

Lin, You are right, I forgot about threads getting lost. I am a member of the American Horticultural Society and get free admission to many fine gardens around the country. A membership card for my husband is included so he gets in free also although he usually gets halfway through and by then his back hurts so goes back to sit in the car.

Susan, that looks like a wonderful Botanical Gardens and if I'm ever over that way, it's certainly a place I plan to visit! Looks like they have some nice botanicals and I really love the sculptures; the Fleur fountain is so cool! I bet the sounds of that Rondelet are amazing on a breezy day and I know the Tree Trellises are going to be even more beautiful once the Bougainvillea are growing over, around and through them!!

@gardenersdetective Susan, I was just looking at the list and realized I'd forgotten to add Peace River Gardens when you posted about it back in November! It's in the list now.

The Peace River Gardens is already worth the price of admission. It will be exciting to see it expand & grow over the years.

Wow, that is beautiful! I've never heard of it either, and it is only a bit over 2 hour drive from my house. I like that they're pet friendly too. Sounds like a great day trip. Thanks for posting Alice.

Oh wow, I did not see the part about pet friendly. I hate that there are so many beautiful state parks where I can only have a pet in the campgrounds. We love to take our dog along on day trips but we can't leave him in the car so we wind up just driving around and coming home. I understand that many are not responsible pet owners but I always have a supply of "doggy bags" in my pocket for accidents. LOL Williston is only about 90 miles from here, you are right, that is a good day trip.

Williston is one of those towns that when you drive through it and blink you might miss it LOL
We are backroad drivers here in FL, and drive though it many times, never had any idea that garden was there. The video is spectacular.

We are in the middle of a small kitchen reno it was supposed to be a 5 day project but the new materials were held up by the weather in the midwest so they lost a couple of days and will be working through the weekend. Next week is clean up and the following week we have family visiting. Maybe by mid March we can take a ride. We love the backroads also.
I though the story was fascinating. It took some vision to buy that property and make a beautiful park.
