I finally took the plunge and ordered 'Pastelegance' for planting last fall. It did indeed come up this spring, 3 stems, 2 with one bud each. I consider that just fine for a first-year-to-emerge plant. One of those buds opened today, and I am SO HAPPY to have this wonderful peony!

Congrats, Linda! To buy a root of Pastelegance you are officially a peony addict!! It was my first really expensive (to me) root as well, unfortunately not anywhere near the last. It's funny, it seems to grow so vigorously each spring but it hasn't increased quickly, at least in my garden. And it's yet another that had not a single bud this spring.

It's one that I still have not seen in person, I don't think. Everytime I think about it, I find about 3 or 4 others that I could get for the price of that one. Hilarious! But I'm sure my day is coming.... the photos are nice. Is it fragrant, I don't recall?

Don't remember a scent at all, Tracey. I'd bet on yours having blooms 1st spring, Karen. Even mine had a bloom 1st spring and you guys know what my first year bloom record is....

No, it is not fragrant, at least not to my sense of smell... I just went out and checked.

Thank you, Linda. I just couldn't 100% recall what Liz told me last year.
