Sempervivum 'Shawnee' seems like it might not be correct in our database.
Here is ours: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Shawnee')
Here is the German site: http://sempervivum-liste.de/Se...

Here is a photo by Howard Wills from Ferwood Nursery:

Patty, what does yours look like right now? Have you looked at the German sites photos to compare yours?

Haha - well right now I'm in D.C. so ... the last pic I posted of it was 4/8, didn't take a pic of the oldest hen b/c of the hail damage. But I would say it does not look particularly dissimiliar from other pics, and I prefer Horst' site

Howard Wills photo shows mottled purple and green leaves. To me this mottling indicates that this semp is going to change color a LOT during the different seasons and even year to year.Pictures in the other data bases and ours confirm this. The form (shape) of the plant is consistant is all the German sites and most of the photos on ours. Spring Colors photos seem to be of a different plant. Not only is the color not in agreement with the other photos but the form is very different.
jkbingh's photo is also too different in color and form. Semps that display mottling of purple and green/blue at one time of the year usually do not turn solid burgundy/red at another season. This is only my humble opinion. and I could be 100 percent wrong as some things did some pretty extreme color changes this past winter This is why I think that ALL pictures should be dated as they are on Sempervivum Liste

I got mind from Patty but don't have her camera skills.
I think color in photos is not a good determination of if a plant is correct
For example these pictures where taken with my phone. The following pictures are of the same plant. Photos taken seconds apart.

This is what 'Shawnee' looks like in June.
http://sempervivum-liste.de/si...

'Shawnee' can go all dark red like jkbingh's photo during parts of spring.
http://sempervivum-liste.de/si...

Right now it is the only one that looks correct. Patty what was your source of 'Shawnee'?

Hey Lynn, you contradicted yourself here:

"jkbingh's photo is also too different in color and form. Semps that display mottling of purple and green/blue at one time of the year usually do not turn solid burgundy/red at another season."

Then you said "Shawnee can go all dark red like jkbingh's photo during parts of spring" Confused

Mine is mottled right now, is solid pink at times, never dark red. Julia's came from me, so ours are the same. We also both grow under plastic about 7 months out of the year. (Oct thru mid May). I got mine in Eugene

They certainly can and do. Here is a photo of mine today. We had an extremely warm winter this year and it didn't get the intense color that it usually does.

Patty, it was Jo Ann that made the comment:

My point is that the photographer is looking at the plant when he/she takes the photo. The photographer knows which pictures are accurate Only accurate photos should be posted on a "Data Base". Inaccurate ones can go on etsy or any photo site we want to create or in the trash if they are really off. I would not post my recent photo of Round Midnight on the Data Base as it looks like it is a rose purple color when in fact it is bright deep red so my photo is incorrect and would be misleading to anyone who wants to know what Round Midnight looks like. I find my phone changes the color of pictures with the slightest variance of light or angle of the shot or whatever. My camera is not nearly so sensitive. The picture I just posted of Round Midnight was taken with my phone. I would not use that photo on my website either as it is so far from the real color that I would call it "false advertising" (fake news Hilarious! )

That's true JoAnn but my point was a photo is really not the best in using for ID just because of variation in pictures.

Hi Lynn. Sorry for the late response but I work in law enforcement and have been working the graveyard shift. I got that semp from a nursery in Ohio. I had several last year and when I was building my greenhouse I had them potted up out of the beds and lost the majority of them during a long raining stretch that we had here.

James that is a difficult shift to work, I did it for a very short period of time, until I realized that not matter what I did I could not sleep in the daytime. Thank you for all you do in law enforcement, it is a very difficult job these days. Stay safe. Group hug
Sorry to hear about the loss of so many of your 'Shawnee', but oh so thankful that some made it through. Can you show us a new photo so we can see what it looks like now?
Can you add dates to your database photos. That way we can compare them with others growing at the same time of the year.
