Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Mokan Butterfly')

Mokan Butterfly is a profuse and eager bloomer for me. Sometimes too many open at once that the blooms can crowd each other. Other than that it is overall a nice eyed daylily.

Mokan Butterfly is a very good and reliable bloomer. I have had it for many years and on occasion I thought about letting it go to get something newer and could never bring myself to do it. Blooms well and increases fairly good. I have it planted where it gets a half a day shade and it doesn't seem to mind.

Unfortunately, I've had different experience with Mokan Butterfly. I have had it for years, it has reliably bloomed, but not great, rather short, & the blooms just don't look as good as the photos. I think the first year I had it, it did look good, then I moved it. I was planning to get rid of it this year, & it is doing better than it ever has, but it may leave anyway. Still, maybe it just doesn't like the spot it is in.

I love Mokan Butterfly, I purchased it in an end of season sale. I wasn't sure if it would even survive the winter it was in such rough condition. The next year it did come back and had a couple of blooms even though we were in a severe drought. This year it has come back and looks fantastic, (waiting for scapes) with all the rain we have had so far. This one is a fighter and has a place forever here in my zone 5 garden.

I have this and it does very well in the UK (I'm in Yorkshire which is in the north of England).

In this area we often get cold, wet and windy weather and this daylily not only copes with it really well it always looks beautiful, the whitest daylily I have with a clear purple eye.


Edited to add photos. In real life the eye is much more blue-purple than the first picture the second and third pictures are much more accurate.

I loved MB but probably lost it when I moved house. As it is for Nikki, it was very white and the eye a very blue purple. The only reason I haven't replaced it yet because it may be one of several that were in very poor shape when I moved and have only now grown back. But I must get another one as having 2 plants of it would be great anyway.
