A few yrs ago, we lost a bunch of trees in a storm. Last summer I did not notice the hostas frying in the sun, but this year the leaves are curling and literally look cooked.... dry and curled.

So I've decided to pot up some of my favorites - I just ordered 8 pots. I read someones blog on potted hostas, so I don't have questions there... But, I'm hoping after I get them out of the sun and they get their second flush... will they look good again??

Next Q -- I always worry about plants being left in pots over the winter, then into the spring.... I am gone until Mid-May, and they are emerging already. This year with the wet spring we had, many were emerging when I got here (Wisc Dells area) by the 3rd week or April.

When I leave in end of Sept, I can put them in a more sheltered area.... should i pack leaves around the pots? I think I'm zone4b here.

Any guidance would be great.

Terese,
I'm 4b also, I have placed the pots of hostas that had not be planted in a protected area and covered them with lots of leaves, they came through fine in the spring.

Mine are also showing some real stress from the dry sunny days. Too many to worry about, so they're just on their own! I just wanted say that I've actually forgotten some in pots (above ground) and they survived the winter! I'm in zone 5a.
