I was looking for a source for an iris that is not in the TB finder and came across an E-Bay site with some good prices, in fact in one case only 1/3rd of the hybridizer's price. The name is
raggsnrichs which seems familiar. Anyone have experience with them? If it was negative, feel free to send me a Tree Mail. Also are there other US E-Bay sellers other than the Iris Sisters that you trust?

Actually I shouldn't even be looking as I have more than enough already ordered. But I do have places ready or nearly for almost half of the orders which is an improvement over this time last year.

Raggsnrichs is a good one. There are others that are good too. Just look at the feedback they get.
However, I've seen some auctions for a popular iris go for 3 times what it cost from a vendor! It's the excitement of bidding.

The problem with feedback has been discussed here many times. The feedback would only cover shipping and the appearance of the rhizome when received. It might be two years before you find that what was promised is not what was received. Glad to hear about Raggsnrichs.

Yes, well there's that. Someone sent me a noid in place of Decadence, but I don't remember the name of the ebayer!
I hesitated to rave about Raggsnrichs because they're offering a few I'm interested in. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing .

There are established, well-known vendors that make errors too. I hesitate to name names, but I was sent a Bravery that wasn't a Bravery and it wasn't cheap! I got no satisfaction from my communication with the vendor.

I usually buy "Buy It Now" and completely overlooked that these were for bidding. Oh, well. I may wait until the last minute and see if I can get any with no bids.

For EBay irises:
is the picture taken in the seller's garden? [or lifted from a catalog, or not even grown by the seller?]
does it somewhat match what is known about the variety?
is the price reasonable when compared to commercial sellers when shipping is counted in?
is the seller well rated despite the caveats noted?
does the seller have a "business" involving irises and use EBay or Facebook for ease?

Many sell unknowns, often labeled as such, so expect to have a batch of color, but not specific varieties. With over 6000 varieties to compare each unknown to it can get quite problematic, especially if it is an unknown seedling which is not in the AIS and other lists. Others sell what they think is a known variety, which is why the garden picture is helpful. Worse is the selling of one the seller has obtained as an unknown and placed a name on it. A few years ago about 1/2 my EBay purchases ended up as unknowns. Now I sell via EBay but won't buy any except from true vendors.

Caveat emptor!

Yeah, you pretty well are buying a "pig in a poke" .....not just on e-bay ! (box stores, too!) That said, there are some very good vendors on e bay....and some very good plants to be had. You *might* be wise to use the "ask questions" feature, to "feel them out" as to "what do I do if it turns out wrong" ? I would think a "competent" vendor would share the provenance of the plant with you, and , you may end up with a new "iris buddy", in the bargain !

Once in a blue moon you hit the jackpot like I did and come across a retired former iris seller/hybridizer who still has a few irises for sale as a hobby. Green Grin!

To be fair though, I've been sent the wrong thing on more than one occasion from a few commercial stores so it's not just eBay there, errors happen (granted it's a whole other issue if the whole order is wrong) and with plants it's probably going to be awhile before you know.

Having said that I think the only significant plus for eBay is variety, granted it'd depend on location, time of year, etc but there have been times I've gotten things from eBay that no commercial nursery is selling.

I've also been very satisfied with raggsnriches. Another one I like is redroo, now doing business as South Jersey Irises. There are at least three I won't do business with any longer though.
