Hi! Welcome! I love cacti, though I do not have any myself. That looks like 'bunny ears' to me. Some people also call them 'angel wings'. Angora Bunny-Ears (Opuntia microdasys 'Albata')
I am not an early bird or a night owl--I am some form of permanently exhausted pigeon

Yes, it looks like a form of Opuntia microdasys. Water when the soil is going dry. Provide as much light as possible, especially in the winter (when light is going to be an issue in NS). And above all be aware that those little spines (technically they are called glochids) may present an ongoing hazard to children or pets, or even adults who are too curious. So position the plant carefully out of the way of traffic. It's really easy to get a dozen of them stuck in your hand but it can take a long time to get all those spines out. (When in doubt, try duct tape.)

When my brother fell into an Opuntia (he lived in Arizona), the emergency room used duct tape to get the spines out. Smiling

I had to use duct tape to get all the spines out of my hand once too, not a fun experience Hilarious!
