While looking through some Facebook groups, someone had posted a picture of one of George Doorakian's latest intros. It was revealed that this flower is the pollen parent of Rose F. Kennedy (we already knew the pod parent was Emerald Starburst).

I thought that if some of you are using RFK that you might find it interesting info, as I know I did. The parents of the new intro are not listed, but hopefully will be in the AHS listing when it is posted. Here is the the info:

MARY L. LIEVENS
Mary L. Lievens: This very attractive diploid, dormant 5” cultivar is a crimson red flower, with a distinctive green eyezone, and is named after George’s Cardiac Nurse Practitioner, Mary L. Lievens, NP, who has provided him with the highest professional care in helping him through difficult heart related crises. This plant has a flower scape height of 28", three way branching and 21 buds, and is a parent to the award winning "Rose F. Kennedy." Fertile both ways.

Amazing find, Regina! I am so surprised that this is RFK's parent. This parent is measured at only 5" and also a bright red. RFK is such a huge flower with nice purple red color. I guess RFK takes its appearance more from ES. Here is my RFK's pic taken yesterday.

Actually, the credit goes to William Marchant, who posted in a FB group that I am in also. I figured it was info worth sharing since many here do not get on FB.

I have been pouring over my pictures of RFK and my many seedlings from her. I have seen so many different colors come from her crosses--true reds, creamy yellows, pinks, purples, beautiful watermarks and patterns too--it really makes one wonder what the parents of Emerald Starburst are as well (listing as seedling X seedling). One thing that many of the kids also have in common is that they are sunfast, a trait that I am striving for in my seedlings.

Here are some of my favorite RFK kids:
