I thought I'd start a thread for those who want to post pictures of irises that are blooming or reblooming at this time. Many of you have had some shipped in from Blyth last Spring and due to their confusion about the seasons, they are starting to bloom now. Here's a picture of some of mine. Left is Dreaming Clown, middle is Valley of Dreams partly open and Painted Words at the right.

Beautiful blooms, Ivor. All my Blyths have been here so long they are acclimated so I am glad you shared yours. Smiling
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

It's thrilling to have irises in July. If Blyth hadn't retired this year, I'd be ordering them every year! Big Grin

That's great, Bea. Do you happen to know which iris that is? It's a nice one to have that blooms so late (or reblooms so early Hurray! )

Beautiful- I'm jealous! Green Grin!

Do I have any hope of a rebloom here in Z5? I think I've read about a few varieties, but seems like my choices are rather limited...

I have only had one iris rebloom, TB Anxious, and that doesn't really count, because it was just after it arrived from the vendor (who lives in a warmer zone) and it skipped blooming the following spring (and fall). Now it just blooms in spring with the rest of them.
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!

I have one iris that will bloom this month. It is Coral Chalice. My guess is that it was too immature to bloom at regular time and is doing so now; so a "late bloomer" indeed. It is in a newly planted bed (last Summer) so this is not a surprise.

Most of my regular "re-bloom" is in the bed I must get rid of which had a heavy attack of the Iris Bore. Not sure why this one bed was so attacked. I guess mother nature helped solve my relocation problem.

It was given to me in a pot. I don't do well with pots. It's a miracle it survived me at all. It was a while before I could make a permanent spot for it in my garden. With moving it around, I lost the tag.

Immortality and Earl Of Essex are TBs that regularly will rebloom for me. Baby Blessed, is a little one that also reblooms on a regular basis. Others that have made it to rebloom when we have a late fall freeze are Harvest Of Memories, Jennifer Rebecca, Grape Echo and Orange Harvest. But yes there are only a few that I have found. George Bacon from Breezeway irises has a few more that work for him and he's farther North from me.

I agree Earl of Essex and Immortality are the most reliable rebloomers for me.
Got a big surprise this week. Ozark rebounder bloomed this week. This is the earliest TB rebloom I've gotten. Mid July, no less. It even still has a couple pods that I'd hybridized back in May.

Meanwhile, the Blyth Aussies are doing well: Chestnut Roasting, Snaparazzi and Bush Honey in order.

I received these irises last April from Blyth via Mid-America Gardens and planted shortly afterwards. To have irises blooming mid July is worth the extra bit of cost of importing but this will be the last year. As Barry Blyth is retiring, Mid- America has taken over the cultivation of his irises in Oregon. They'll presumably adapt to normal local growing patterns, just like their American cousins.
