So, I've been pondering, making sketches and breaking my head for months to come up with a way to merge different wildlife habitats (meadow, dirt ponds, woodland, natives etc) with 'formal' gardening (combining plants from all over the world) without them clashing or looking 'too obvious'.
What I mean is this:
+
And I don't mean like putting a lush border next to a wildflower meadow divided by a path. No I mean a smooth transition looking like one. I like both styles very much. Wilder/natural is ofcourse great for wildlife and really zen, the other I can really get my hands dirty and do actual gardening. But other than dividing the garden up with high hedging to block the eye, I don't see how I I'll ever combine these
Perhaps you could use an open, rustic post-and-rail fence that would not block the eye, but create a porous boundary. Cultivated, formal planting on one side could blend into a more natural planting on the other, as if the plants had seeded themselves over the fence.
