Hurray! Just got two new Peace Lilies. I am so pleased with them. I got them thinking they were in four inch or even 6 inch pots. Merely said they were in pots on the website. Much to my surprise they are in 8 inch pots and the price was so cheap including the shipping I could not believe it. If anyone is interested the name of the place is Delray Plants, located in Venus, Fla.

I need to do some research on the Peace Lily. These new ones are Dominos and I have two others but they are not variegated. If anyone has any secrets to share, please do. I also wondered if you divide them or what when they get too big.

I've had a Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum 'Domino') for at least 10 years now ... no different care than the solid green form. They like bright shade and high humidity.

Delray Plants was acquired by Costa Farms earlier this year: http://www.nurserymag.com/arti... As many know, Costa Farms is who sells the Exotic Angel brand. Exotic Angel used to be the brand of Hermann Englemann Greenhouses here in Florida which was sold to Costa Farms a couple of years ago.

I do hope nothing changes with the change of ownership. I also have the plain green but they have no tags, so I do not know what they are. They all look alike to me at this point in my life. Hilarious!
Thanks for the information. Nice to talk to you again.

Jacquie, they all look the same to me too except for Domino which is the only variegated one I've ever seen. My Domino has lost a lot of it's variegation as it's gotten older and I think it was a prettier plant when it was small. Some varieties of Peace Lilies grow 12 inches to 24 inches in height but I saw a really tall one planted at a shopping mall once and one about 6 feet tall in a motel lobby once. I had to actually feel a leaf to be sure it was real. Smiling I currently only have the one (Domino) but we have a lot of shade on our property and I've been thinking about getting some smaller ones and planting a group of them beneath one of the oak trees. They are grown farther south in the state as outdoor plants but if we ever have frost here I'd have to cover them or they'd be goners.

I have read (I'm not sure if it's true), that they usually lose their variegation over time as it is "unnatural."

Could be. I've also had a few variegated Hoya carnosa's over the years that eventually reverted back to solid green. Lost this and a bunch of others in a winter freeze one year. Sad

I don't have that variegated one, just this solid green leaf one. It survives my care by growing it inside our bathroom where it can get its humidity needs satisfied. It will never survive our toasty dry summer outdoors. My plant is actually overdue for a repot, it has consumed a lot of the soil, just waiting for the bloom to fade, when another one showed up..oh well..I keep the plant on the moist side, at times it is in some standing water from the plate that catches the water that drains out, does not seem to mind especially this summer time when it is just so dry here.

These two dominos I just got are the biggest peace lilies I have ever seen. They look more like hosta than lilies. I am amazed. The flowers are so big also. If you could have seen the condition the boxes were in when they arrived, you would have thought they would have been dead. It was really unacceptable and I told the company, but I see by the other reviews by customers, that happens frequently and I am sure they expect it because they pack these babies better than any I have ever gotten any where else.

These are the blooms on my Dominos. Did you all know they have a real sweet fragrance? I had no idea they had a fragrance before I got the Donimos.
Here is a bloom on the smaller Domino that has 2 petals. The other large one is on the larger plant.

My plant stays outside year round and I never thought to smell the flower! I just went and looked; there is 1 new spadix/flower and a couple of older green ones. I smelled all of them but I don't detect any scent. I'll have to ask my husband to smell it to see if he detects a fragrance. It's weird because I have a highly sensitive sense of smell for most things but some flowers I smell nothing! When I grew Epiphyllum oxypetalum which is said to be extremely fragrant, my husband always talked about how nice the fragrance was but I couldn't smell a thing. Green Grin!

I just added these photos to the database, the entire plant and another photo where I cut the blooms (Spadix) to show the stages as they mature from white to green.

Lin - In my experience with Peace Lilies, some varieties have aroma and others do not. Most hybrids fall in the latter category. Those that do have an aroma tend to produce it for just a short time after the flower opens and then the aroma dissipates. Not at all like an Epiphyllum!

Thanks Will! When my Peace Lily produces a new bloom I will try to remember to take a whiff to see if I detect any fragrance. Green Grin!

This is a followup to the saga of my Domino Peace Lilies. They are an absolute pleasure to have in my bedroom. I must say their odor had me concerned for awhile because it was very strong and a bit unpleasant at times, but they were beautiful and blooming. This was several months ago.
February 2018 this is what they looked like.
Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/8a315b

Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/7d9a0f

Then things began to change, the one (second photo) began to get droopy and sick in one of the four sections of the plant.

Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/fcf275

This kept on until yesterday when I just decided after completely loosing one section and this was what the second sick section looked like, I would pull it out and examine the roots.

Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/47e32b

Here is the result of the examination:

This tiny worm is something I have never seen before in any of my plants.

Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/804cad

Thumb of 2018-03-24/JB/93189d

Found lots of dead ones during further examination and one dead one in the healthy plant. Took both plants and transplanted them into clean new pots, cleaned and scrubbed their roots with neems and soapy water and watered them with hydrogen peroxide solution in the new pots.

I took a chance in shocking them like I did during their blooming season but I had no choice. I can not take a chance of having those little critters grow or even one survive......we can only hope and pray they both survive.

I have contacted Costa Delray regarding the worm and ask them if they could identify it. I can not be sure it was in the original soil as eggs but I did think they should know they existed in these plants. If they did not come from the original soil then I could have had a bad bag of Miracle Grow Potting Soil with Moisture Control but that seems to be questionable. I do know that the worms were not there when we put the plants in a larger pot last year. They obviously had not yet hatched.

Wanted to let you all know about my experience and will be glad to hear any thoughts or comments you may have. Have a great day.

Somehow it looks like a millipede, since worms do not have arms, legs or eyes. From what I have read, they do take 2 to 5 years to mature, so gauging on the history of your plant, seems right about that time frame, so it is now more visible to you.

I googled Peace Lily Worms Big Grin and they must be a regular visitor to this plant.

But, Not in my house....sorry little fellow. I took a chance in removing them from these plants, but I have gone through too many State inspections of my greenhouse to know that if I had them in my plants I would have lost my license. That is just this state I am sure and of course since I am no longer a licensed tropical grower I do not have to worry about them being here, but, I do not want them so I took the chance of having the plants being too shocked to survive. We can only hope.

I really an a fanatic about insects and worms or centipedes. I know they are a necessity in some areas but I would rather take my chances. nodding

i've had mine for almost 5 years and i divided it may be a year after purchase.
It sulked and didn't grow for may be 6 months. putting it on a heat mat and keeping it very warm and humid will help, especially when it's still chilly.
the stalks grow quite long after sev years. i think they need to be buried deeper with time or cut off and rerooted. They send out little aerial root stubs - i am thinking of wrapping them in moist sphag to see if they will grow more. Some of mine are 2.5" already.
unfortunately in Fl it's almost impossible to avoid pests in pots grown in nurseries. very often they are under shade cloth and semi-open on sides, so stuff gets in.
