It sort of depends upon the size of the bush, John. Could you post a picture, please?

Also, I wouldn't transplant it until after it's lost all its leaves in the fall. Summer is absolutely not the time to try this.

Sadly, the deed is already done. John tree-mailed me instead of replying here and he actually transplanted 4 lilacs on July 1st or so. I am advising him on triage now. Sad
