Hi everyone,
I am so excited. we bought a different house 2 years ago and when it came time to move I dug up some of my plants and brought them to the new house. Because the real estate picture for the old house were already out there, I felt like I couldn't take too much from my gardens.
Needless to say it didn't take me long to realize I had forgotten some of my favorties. (like my black irises) I also had very large roses that I paid $50 for when I bought them new 10 years ago.
I am so lucky because the young couple that bought our house invited us to come and see it now that it is all remodeled. The best part is she said that I could take my shovel and divide some of the plants I miss, or take cuttings of things. she is so sweet! She said it is your garden after all, lol.
I will give a full report when I get back.
I am thinking of offering my services for weeding etc. in exchange.

Sue that sound great, you may have a new gardening friend. Many times you hear of people buying houses and getting rid of gardens as they know nothing about them and do not want to learn.

That is a nice thought, but if someone offered to give me some 'free weeding' I'd take that as implying I wasn't taking care of my flower beds... That is just me, and I am a bit prickly.

It is nice that you want to give back though vs just taking. That is becoming all too common in this world.

If you have not already done so, you might suggest a 'garden tour' of your old and her new garden - you could point out the good and bad, provide some history, and maybe even bring some labels to help her remember what's where. As Betty noted, might be a new garden friend in the making. And how fun to be able to visit your old stomping grounds and see how they will evolve.

yep, you're right about the weeding offer mtnman. I don't want to be insulting just helpful :). I guess I will just see how it plays out. I like the idea of making plant tags, I have books with all the flowers listed and where they are at.

thanks everyone, seeing our old house was very weird, but in a good way. They did a great job of remodeling it. They were super nice, I got slips of all of my antique roses, and a few other things. i'm so happy. ;) now I hope they root.
I did offer my plant labels if they wanted.

It is nice to see a new owner is taking care your old house, I know the feeling. The plant tag idea is cool!

Taking cuttings and returning some of them growing in large pots would be a very nice idea!

@greene Thank you for posting this great idea. I think I will try this and see how it goes.

Getting some divisions from the new owner was very nice. I wish I could undo some plantings I made for a neighbor 30 years ago. I am fighting those forsythia every year.
