I've had this plant for a year now and it's still small like when I got it. It grows new growth but the leaves die off as fast as they grow and it hasn't gotten any bigger. I'm not sure what it's called so I can't research what it needs but no matter what I do it doesn't seem to be too happy. I'm an avid planter and all of my other plants are florishing, but this sweet little thing hasn't enjoyed any of the places I've moved it and I'm at a loss for what to do to promote its growth. Does anyone have any tips please? Ithanks would really appreciate the help!

It looks like a type of Homalomena in the Aroid family. It will grow better if it is in a smaller pot. The large pot tends to retain water for too long and may be the reason it is losing leaves. It likes bright indirect light but needs protection from the direct indoor sun. If possible, move it to a north windowsill and leave it there so it has a chance to adapt. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry in between waterings. Its requirements are similar to a Chinese Evergreen and Dieffenbachia if you have had success with either of those plants in the Aroid family.

A hint of variegation in one of the leaves looks like Dieffenbachia to me.

The leaves in the pic do not have noticeable ribbing/rippling on the surface, and the vein pattern does not match Homalomena, at least not the 'Emerald Gem' seen so often in BBS's.

Tiffany - The stems certainly look more like Dieffenbachia or Aglaonema, but the foliage looks more like Homalomena than Dieffenbachia, although I agree it is not a great match.

I agree with with you both and am curious as to it's true identity. It could be a diffenbachia which has lost it's variegation and is etiolated. Although the round leaves are a bit odd. In any case, the care is very much the same as mentioned.

Egertons Growers. maybe 1987? They grew and sold a lot of houseplants,
My first, big education,,,, I cared for 5 greenhouses full of plants there.
Potted--re-potted--watered it all--etc...

They are no longer in business. The old man (the one who vreated it aii) died--and his
