Thread OP
Troy, OH zone 6a
My Rose of Sharon (about 2 years old) started to leaf out this spring and then seemed to stop. The prior 2 years it leafed and bloomed beautifully. We did get a fairly late frost in May of this year. I live in hardiness zone 6a. What can I do for this plant to get it healthy again?

We had a late freeze in my area, and I was beginning to think that my rose of sharon was never going to leaf, let alone bloom. Rose of sharon is an incredibly hardy plant, and will recover without special attention. What's more, as it grows, it will start to put out new shoots all over the place until you find yourself pulling them up like weeds in a year or two.

Totally understand....I have always had Rose Sharon and they multiple aggressively ....which means if one dies....you can always find a little one to replace it....but I have to wait for them to grow....I had a big problem with them this year....several have died.....or are sparely leafed out....or have tiny leaves that won't grow....and tiny flowers even....don't know what the heck is wrong? Lost 4 completely....now granted I have had them for several years....some are taller than my house....I use them everywhere because I dearly love them when they bloom....Have some I use for property boundary....and some just here and there for their loveliness....but have never noticed this in other years....maybe some of them are too old? How long do they live? Some look like they might have some kind of fungus on their stems....and others just still go to town blooming!!! Has anyone had that problem lately with these? They are so hardy...never have had to do anything extra for them...we haven't had bad winters really but some late frosts...and none of them have had to stand in water or anything...is there a disease that these bushes get that is common? Shrug! I am also in 6a...
