It's a pretty little thing that has survived and managed to bloom for several years despite having been swamped by weeds and overgrown by a tree. This was the year it was going to be freed of competition but it was at the wrong end of the garden and this year's deluges cut short the flower bed restoration that started at the other end. Obviously hardy here in Zone 4.

I love this little performer. This summer was my second year of flowers and it has done well with at least 8 scapes, despite being uprooted and placed in a temporary bed.

It started blooming on June 27 and I have 1 scape left with another bud or two. Last year I did get rebloom. Have to get out there and poke around to see if anything is coming up.

I have pollinated (using several different pollen parents) all the flowers that it has opened here and so far it has not set a pod. Unfortunately, it has also dropped/aborted most of its buds without opening them and this year's weather is neither too hot nor too dry. I am quite disappointed with it.

Kanai is a little testy with pod setting. I had 1 pod last year and I think I got 2 or 3 seeds from it.

This year I intentionally crossed Little Maggie with Kanai and I have a small pod on Kanai and I think Little Maggie aborted hers.

I have 2 blooms today, but will have to see what I have blooming that I can cross with it.

Kanai Sensei is new to my garden this summer. I bought it on description alone, as it suppose to have a great bud count. One of the things I look for when buying daylilies.

So far doing great in my zone 6A garden. Smiling

Update:

Kanai Sensei continues to grow in size in the 32 months that I have owned it. It is one large mound of fans and as of today, I have counted 15 scapes in this clump and more seem to be appearing almost daily.

My first scapes for this year appeared around 6/1 which is about 5 days earlier than last year.

I did manage to get 1 pod from it last year, but there were only 2 seeds and so far, nothing has sprouted (seeds planted 7 days ago).
