I am very fond of small and mini daylilies especially in purple. Just something about the colour and size combination really appeals to me.

The favourites in my garden are Star Child (pinky lavender here), Honky Tonk Blues and a traditional wine purple self called "Dark Sprite" (probably unregistered).

I am adding to my purples and will be ordering Victorian Violet and either Little Wart or Little Grapette, all older varieties. Have to decide what needs to go to make room first, possibly Fickle Lady and Blueberry Candy (both good plants which I like but I don't LOVE! 😞)

Which are your favourite mini purples and why?

Love to see your pics as well, please.

I bought two new ones this year that I love, Magic Elf and Blue Alert. Another that I have had for a long time is Siloam Fine Art. It is a good one, too.

Magic Elf is a small plant with a mini flower. Blue Alert and Siloam Fine Art are taller.

I just bought Siloam Tee Tiny and here the eye is quite blue. I want to get Siloam Tiny Tim to join my Siloam collection.

I will post some pictures!

Here are a few photos taken in my garden:

Blue Alert - This one has a really blue eye.

Magic Elf - I love this one and it is a heavy bloomer and it clumps up fast.

Close up of Magic Elf. It stands up well to heavy rain, too.

I will get some pictures of the other two today. They should be blooming.

Another one I like that might be more readily available is Dragon Dreams.

My two favorites in this class are most definitely purple! I'm not on my computer ( no access to pictures) but have added some pics of these to the database here, Both are Outstanding!
Look up the pictures of:
PURPLE PHANTOM by Hilton Anderson
BUDDYS ANGEL BABY by James Hall

And Grace Stamiles MAGICIANS APPRENTICE has had a growth spurt since early this spring when I gave it a stern talking to!! It usually isn't fully double here but has some double segments.
Could mention my avatar photo which is purple and green. It is a small flower that grows in my small/mini bed. It is my namesake daylily.

@floota--love your choices. More to add to the wish list for when /if we move house. So the one in your avatar--is that one that you bred? It is lovely!

@touchofsky--I think that there is a hobby nursery in The Netherlands that might have Dragon Dreams (and also Blue Flirt which was sold out when I put my order in in Germany).

I seem to remember reading in an old thread that it hadn't done well for Mayo though--maybe it needs more sunshine or a longer growing season than we get in Northern Europe?

I still have some daylilies arriving in autumn so once they are all in I can see if I have room for any more and still leave room for any seedlings.

I ordered Blue Flirt this spring and the seller notified me that it had died that winter. She offered to substitute Lavender Blue Baby, so I took that, but it is a small and not mini daylily.

I then contacted a seller that lives about 1/2 hour from me and she recommended Magic Elf, so I bought that instead. I visited her daylily garden this summer and checked out the little ones and bought Blue Alert.

@touchofsky--I so wish there were daylily nurseries I could visit here. There are very few and ALL based in the south. I think the nearest one is about 300 miles away and they all mainly have old varieties, which are lovely but sometimes you just want something new!

Lucky you to get Blue Alert, fancy a seed swap next year? Whistling

Night Dreams--red purple, much more purple than shown here. Second year here and doing really well. It produced a proliferation which we have rooted, so will have another plant. Bloom size is 3.5".

Thumb of 2017-07-30/Avedon/b58ea3
Orchid Flounce--this may not meet your color qualifications but it is a lovely 3.5" flower and excellent grower. It is on its second set of rebloom scapes.

Thumb of 2017-07-30/Avedon/352f93
Little Trooper--3" flower, second year, has not been a strong grower for us, hoping for better in time.

I also grow Star Child and Dragon Dreams. Have you seen or heard of Purple D'Oro? I think that is one I should get. Check it out on the NGA Plant Database. Another one might be Pugsley, it is a mini, just under 3".

@avedon--those are all really nice. Just added Little Trooper this year-- hope it does better for me. Crossing Fingers!

Star Child is a fantastic mini isn't it? What is Dragon Dreams like for you--is it a strong grower?

Off to look at purple d'oro now!

@Scatterbrain
Of course I am open to discussing a seed swap!

The next two minis I am hoping to add are Dixie Blues and Blink of an Eye.

15" tall, 3" bloom

15" tall, 2.5" bloom

I looked at these two, and they seemed to be doing well in my area.

@touchofsky--Valerie I have always loved Dixie Blues. There is a french company has it on their website but my french wasn't good enough to understand the different delivery options. D'Oh!

I emailed them as it says on their site that they speak English but they haven't got back to me so maybe it isn't available. I'm not familiar with the other one but it's very pretty.

Regarding Dragon Dreams--it is doing the second year now and has performed very well. It has already bloomed another set of scapes, and if we could get some rain, it's possible there could be another set form, wouldn't that be something!! You have piqued my interest about small flowered purples, I have found some on the O'Bannon Springs Daylilies website. You could look at that, see what else is out there. I had to smile about the name PUNK, but regardless of the name, seems to be a good one.

An older one from 1981 is a daylily I still fondly remember. It is an award winner and is also on a list I had for daylilies that are shade tolerant (partial shade being where mine was grown and still bloomed well). It's Velvet Shadows. It is a dark purple. I wish I had a picture of it but I don't . There are some on the data base however........ One of these days I will find it again and put it back in my garden.........Maryl

@maryl-I have Velvet Shadows! Beautiful little daylily, lovely rich red-purple here. Don't think I have any photos of it for some reason.
@Avedon--unfortunately the vast majority of daylilies available in America just aren't here in Europe Sighing! And now we have the import ban to Europe too we do not have access to anything new unless it is hybridised in Europe. Will be getting a serious case of daylily envy if I look on American daylily sites (not that it will stop me looking). Smiling
