Hello all,

I have seen this pop up in a variety of places. I really love the structure of the leaves and stems so I moved a couple from along my fence and planted them out before the end of last season. One did not come back but this one is really flourishing and has gone from a small plant of about a foot to this just this season. I would really love to know what this is. Thank you all kindly in advance!

Oh no! An elm? Man I hope not! I really like it but I can't get it in its current location. I was hoping it would be a really large shrub that grew really fast like a dogwood.

It looks like a Siberian Elm which is commonly called Chinese Elm by mistake. A real messy weedy tree. When it produces seeds they fall like a snow storm and every seed seems to germinate and immediately sends down a deep root which makes them difficult to pull.

Yes, I think some of those seeds from Paul2032's yard have blown into mine.

I think you are absolutely right. I have one that is growing in between the stamped patio and fence that will not come out no matter what I do. It is stuck down deep. This particular specimen is in a spot where I have had a hard time growing anything so I think I will let it stay. I have one more picture of the full plant. Let me know what you think. Looks like a chinese elm. You will be MORE than sorry if you let that sucker stay there. We had chinese elms in our yard. Roots in the cellar. I don't think you can hardly kill them, but I believe we have finally won the war on them. They are HORRID!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Anna and everyone. It seems as if I have discovered the identity of this plant. This specimen is far away from the house and in an area where nothing grows so I'll monitor it and see how it goes. :)

Ummmm...............you will go look at it tomorrow and it will be 40 feet tall..........they are EXTREMELY fast growers, which is why my MIL planted them when she lived here.

We had one in front of our first house. It grew into a very attractive tree.

I love my Chinese Elm. Favorite tree on our lot.

How do I kill it? They are taking over my garden?

Pull them while they are little. They are miserable things if the get a good root hold anywhere.
