Hurricane Harvey is set to make landfall on Friday night in Corpus Christi. For us in the Houston area that means we are on the dirty rainy wet side and will be expecting heavy rains all weekend, and into Monday. It will sit over San Antonio for while so it will get wet there, too!

Well, today's one of our two watering day, from midnight to 10 am and 7 pm to midnight. I'm rolling the dice and watering this morning. Maybe this evening it will rain, but I'm weary of the weather guys " the sky is falling" reports every ten minutes. I do hope we get some rain, but I'm still going to water!

We've had workers working on a fence. They were supposed to finish up tomorrow (which I didn't believe they could do considering they started Tuesday instead of Monday). Now it might rain as soon as tomorrow. Norrnally, I'd say bring it on! But I did want it finished. was told 2-3 days for this part...HA! The neighbor from the Hot Place showed up Tuesday, all hot under the collar. Yelled at the guy while their big dog from the Hot Place roamed around our property. And SHE wasn't happy...even though he told her the fence line would be 3 inches on our side of property line. Some people are bitter, twisted and can't see they are their own worst enemy.
I hope all in harm's way from Harvey will be okay!

Even in the far east Pinewoods, the weathermans' finger is hovering over the PANIC button. They are saying anywhere from 10 - 19 inches of moisture. I just made sure I had a full tank of gas and an extra can of spam. Whistling

This happens every time something like a hurricane or tropical storm hits the coast. The weather people get very melodramatic make sure they get footage of some of them out in the wind and rain. Sure, keep people well-warned and informed, but...sometimes it just gets ridiculous. People stock up like the apocalypse is coming. Where I live, we don't stock up on anything, but hey, we never needed to do that here. Once a storm stalled out and just kept raining so much they feared for a dam failure for Medina Lake. But we had enough food and water without any special stocking up. We're country, too far from stores, so having plenty on hand is just normal for us. And our house will probably never be flooded because of the hill...just a corner of the property includes the dry creek, which on rare occasion gets some flash flooding.

I'm tired of the weather broadcast also but I do understand. My home was heavily damaged by Ike. It took months to repair. Gas lines were under police guard and ATMs were inoperable and if you didn't have cash you couldn't buy food in some areas. I had no electricity for almost two weeks in August.

I worked in the med center that time it flooded, I don't remember the name of the storm but I will always remember working as a human chain in the stairwell because the elevator wouldn't work and it was the only way to get food up to patients.

I really hope that doesn't happen again. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

That is a mindset that many of us live by. Like Linda, I live in the woods but have a pantry and no need to go to store daily or even weekly. I pretty much can cover the necessities in life with out major inconveniences.

I must say that folks that work in the medical field or emergency services or law enforcement are most appreciated at times like these. They give up their own home life and family to tend to the rest of us. Thank You!

Good luck, Cheryl! Hope it isn't too bad...weathermen can't really predict everything. BTW, I hear that Sam's Club is waiving membership requirements during this weather event so people can get whatever they need.

I've been digging and raking in front of our courtyard to let the rain pass on through. We're fortunate to live on a hill, but we will still get a lot of water. I'm glad we had the trees trimmed this spring. There's no room in the garage for the vehicles!

The Amazon truck has been back and forth on our street all morning. Makes me think I should go order something....anything!

It's been raining lightly here since 5:00 AM - practicing for the main event? We too are on a hill so I expect Harvey to be mainly a messy inconvenience. I have already had local horse owning friends asking whether they can evacuate to our farm if necessary. Much of the county is low and flat. I will take emergency guests, but I really hope it isn't needed.

We're good. Just rain so far. But forecasts say Tuesday and Wednesday is when we will get the effects of Harvey. But we're ready here, staying home cancelling appointments when necessary so, no worries.
