Anyone know a cheap method for long-term seed storage that is effective?

Seeds need cool and dry for long term storage. Seal your seeds into Ziploc bags and store them in the produce drawer of your refrigerator. I've kept seeds for multiple years this way.

Dry for storage, for me is a drawer on an interior wall, away from direct sunlight. Until you know what fully dry is, use paper envelopes.

I have read, but haven't done so, that you do what @Coppice said. And then, you place the envelopes in a glass jar. So you either need really small envelopes or a really big jar or some type of combination of envelopes and jars.

Yes, put the little paper envelopes into ziploc bags. I assumed you already had the seeds in paper envelopes.

You can build your own little envelopes from small (4 x 4 inch or 6 x 6 inch) pieces of paper. I make origami drinking cups and fold both flaps one direction or tiny origami envelopes.
