Protective plastic plant bells that warm soil and shelter tender plants from frost can be purchased online, at garden-supply stores or at places like Walmart these days. They’re great with young plants in the early spring, but you can also use them to create mini greenhouses that help accelerate seed germination too!
Below are two examples of these “mini greenhouses.” They are easily removed, and have swivel vents on top to aid or prevent air circulation. In these examples, all my seeds sprouted within three days! And they all withstood several spring storms.
Placing them firmly over a pot creates a secure positioning so that wind or a pet or child brushing up against them won’t dislodge them.
Placing them over smaller or seed-starter pots is great too, but you'll need to place something on the rims to prevent them from being dislodged or blowing away if the wind gets strong. As you can see, I used rocks and watered these from the bottom.
Happy seeding!
