Hi all,
Sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm new here.
I have a jalapeno plant in a pot that seems to get sadder by the day.
I have been watering it every other day and feeding it once a week.
Any advice? I'm from Brisbane, Australia where the current temperature is averaging 28° Celsius, sunny all day long.

To much water. Your drounding roots. Let top couple inches of soil dry. Roots need air. Also ! It needs to be in ground or at least a 3 gal pot, with drainage holes.

Hi and welcome! It does seem like over-watering is the most likely problem there. But you should definitely stop fertilizing until the plant puts on some healthy new growth. Have you lifted the inner pot out of there to see if there's water sitting in the blue outer pot?

If you find water sitting in the outer pot, then slip the plant out of its pot and check on the roots at the bottom. They may already be rotting, but you can dry out the lower portion of the soil by setting the root ball on an old folded towel or something else absorbent. Once it is dried out somewhat, see if you can remove some of the old soil and place the plant back into the pot with some new potting mix around the lower root area.

I agree that too much water is the most likely cause of the problem -- what type of "soil" did you use in the pot? If it's just garden soil, it's probably too compacted and wet for the plant; you need to use a "potting mix" so there will be good drainage. If you use one with an extended-release fertilizer in it you shouldn't need to add any fertilizer for quite some time.

Snip off the fruit and any flowers to help it recover, also.
Plan B: lesson learned, toss it get a new one, plant in good potting mix, ease up on the fertilizer, watch the watering. probably be closer to getting jalapenos that way.

I used potting mix.
Thanks to all for your replies, very helpful.
I have cut its feeding and watering schedule and just to be on the safe side, bought another 3 young plants in case this one carks-it.

Good plan! (in my world you can never have too many jalapenos... )
