Hi. This is the second year for these bushes and I have seen no catkins. The little buds are visible but never grow. It gets very tall and dies for winter. Does it need a fertilizer or something? Thanks

I just purchased one of these beauties, and they need full sun. They also like lots of water. I cant determine from your photo what direction they are facing, but it may need more sunshine.

Thanks! I guess they will have to be dug up then and moved to the East side of my house. Plenty of sun there! Would moving be best in fall or spring? Thank you!! Smiling

Becci, what direction are they facing right now? Mine is planted in the middle of my front yard in full day sunshine (its the SW corner of property, what I call "no mercy" zone). You typically find pussy willows growing in Wetlands, marshes or bogs, so keep that in mind when you relocate it.
I'd wait until it becomes dormant in the fall.
We transplanted ours from a pot (about 2ft lil twig) in the spring and it already had catkins. Now its 5 times the size! Also, if its near your lawn (that you fertilize) it may be getting too much nitrogen. Hope that helps. Let me know how it goes when u transplant. Smiling

Also, your willow will grow to be at least as big as a small tree. So it is planted too close to the house.
When you transplant in the very early spring or the fall, it is typical for willows to protest, and parts (or maybe even all) of the above ground branches may die and turn black. But the plant is not dead. In 2-4 weeks (if planted in the spring) you will see new growth, most likely from the base of the plant.

Thanks so much. I love the plant, didn't realize how big it would get! It faces west now, but I do have a big tree out there. So I will let it go dormant and replant in the backyard where water collects. I wish I had a guide on all this stuff, thanks for the help!!
