Ric and I visited the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, Pa. last week to see their Holiday Show. I thought you might enjoy seeing some of their containers.
Something a little different these hanging baskets in the entrance room. I think there were 4 of these chandeliers. poinsettia, dichondra, and little grafted cactus for the lights.

This is the same room the entire wall is these terra cotta pots with ferns.
Thumb of 2012-01-08/HollyAnnS/cfc2f9
More hanging ferns.
Thumb of 2012-01-08/HollyAnnS/3f882f
Poinsettia, Cyclamen, Ivy. Not sure what the bare branches were some small tree or bush maybe some red twig dogwood but they definitely add to the look of the container.

Just loved this living wreath I will be making one of these this spring
Diamond Frost Euphorbia
Thumb of 2012-01-08/HollyAnnS/287dad
More Diamond Frost, some Asparagus Fern and this Croton.
I was really interested in this one as I have the same Croton
Thumb of 2012-01-08/HollyAnnS/17a3d6
I really liked these Poinsettia mixed planters as I usually get a few Poinsettia at the Holidays
and never think of mixing them in containers. I just plop them down on a counter top.
Next year I will give some thought to putting them into a mixed container.
Hanging Basket Poinsettia, Dichondra,Asparagus Fern

These 2 containers were in the Cactus Room. I think Kalanchoe but not sure what else is in there.

These window boxes ran down both sides of a long room.
Ferns, Diamond Frost, Dichondra, Orchids, Amaryllis,
and a beautiful gold colored Poinsettia.
Thumb of 2012-01-08/HollyAnnS/1e0e99
They put these fountain columns to good use with
Ivy, Asparagus Fern and the same Orchids that were used in the window boxes.

Next to the last post, last photo on left: is that a Euphorbia (the tall plant)? It is beautiful.
Holly you go to such fun interesting places. The photos are wonderful.
I love the Diamond Frost, just looked it up, not hardy to my zone 8 and I don't have room to over winter anymore plants. Sad

Lynn, Not sure if that is a Euphorbia but I thought it might be.

Diamond Frost is one of the plants I get thru my HGHA Co-op buy so I will make sure I have plenty to do that wreath. I will have to get a new wreath form for it this year.

Springcolor, I like to use Asparagus Fern in my planters and window boxes. Last year I was lucky and found some of them marked down for $1 each so I scooped up a lot of them. Here is a picture of one of the planters I put together last summer.
Verbena, Asparagus Fern, Warneckii' Dracaena.

Holly,
Are those the ones you had next to your greehouse? Maybe that was someone else. I like that Dracaena!!! Lovey dubby Nice combo. I use to grow that fern as a house plant when I was in high school 30 years ago. Never thought of growing it outside. That seems to be a trend, plants that we use as house plants out side in combos. Love it.

Yes they are the ones I had next to the GH I really liked those planters. I wasn't able to make enough space to bring them in and eventually the temps dropped and I lost those plants.

I always like the combo of 3 things in a container ... something taller, medium, and short or trailing. That looks very nice, Holly. I have Asparagus Fern here overwintering down in the garage. It always drops a lot of its needles but comes back looking great the following Spring. I have a different one, but I like and use all of them.
I garden for the pollinators.

Asparagus fern is probably my absolute favorite "spiller" for containers. I've tried sweet potato vines, but something just eats them to pieces.

Anyway, Holly, love seeing all the container photos from Phipps, especially the holiday-themed ones. That "Diamond Frost" (another of my FAVORITES) wreath is just great - can't wait to see photos of yours come Spring! Smiling

Barb, you might have the same unwelcome guest for dinner that I do - groundhog! Grumbling Every year he devours every last leaf of my sweet potato vine and then just as it's finally starting to fill out again he's back! Angry

I'm bored and looking for ideas for container ideas for spring - thanks Holly, these are fantastic! I tip my hat to you. I never thought about using 'Diamond Frost' for a living wreath, cool idea! Thumbs up IMHO you can NEVER find enough uses for this plant, definitely my favorite annual! Lovey dubby
