.... my sincere apologies to anyone offended by my watermarking of my picts ....... BUT
to simply put -- they are MINE. I represent myself on here as a fellow iris lover, not as a business owner. I've been replying politely via PM to the few individuals offended by my branding, but, respectfully, I will continue to assert ownership of MY picts taken of irises that I own.
geez, ..... that I even have to make this declaration Grumbling

Timothy, some people on this forum have found their pictures that they posted here on NGA on other websites. You have every right to watermark your pictures.

I am guessing that they didn't like the watermark through the middle of the iris. But they are your pictures to do with as you wish. Sorry the need came to post a declaration.

I don't care for watermarks on any photos, but find it easy enough to simply scroll past to something more pleasing to my eye. Do as you like.

Timothy, what rational person could object to a watermark? And how is the one you use on your photographs (which is not obstructive to seeing the image, by the way) to be considered any different from someone choosing to use either of the available NGA watermarks? I use one on mine. I post photographs from The Shady Spot Iris and put one on hers because they ARE hers. Suzanne posts images from Stout Gardens with their name blazoned on them. So I don't get it, either. But you know what? Yeah, you know what--just ignore those folks. I, for one, am delighted to have you here and thoroughly enjoy the photographs you generously add to this database. I tip my hat to you.

Ha ha, Debra -- guess I'm an irrational person then. I always suspected as much. Although I don't actually 'object' to watermarks, I just find them distracting.

.... yes, photo ownership id's can be distracting if not implemented properly. But with people's ( and mine) appearing in places where they don't belong, and used without permission, the need arises to assert property/and copyright concerns. I'm very generous with sharing my raw photos to iris clubs (without WM's) and anyone else as long as they are used for non profit and educational use and proper attribution is made. I have many hundreds to share. I suspect the people who were miffed by my owner id's were thwarted in their attempts to appropriate the photos.

Timothy........I'm curious what happened that initiated this conversation? I have nearly 20,000 pictures on NGA and 1300 Landscape Photos. About 2000 of iris. None are marked. I've seen a few used elsewhere but almost find it flattering. I rarely give marked photos thumbs-up but it is a free country and you and anyone feeling a need to mark are certainly free to do it. Dave gives us that option. Anyone faulting you needs to get something real to worry about......

@TBMan,
Maybe I'm blind to anything other than beauty. That might explain why I didn't notice any watermarking on your photos. I just thought they were gorgeous.

Seriously, that should NEVER be a problem (watermarking) since they ARE your property.

I'm just not that concerned about a photo. Of a flower. I figure anything posted on the internet is pretty much fair game to whoever wants to use it, copyright or no. That said, I also agree wholeheartedly with Paul.

@TBMan I was enjoying the new images you have added to the database, but I noticed you did not watermark the pictures of High Octane and Danger Money. Was this done on purpose? Just curious...

... an oversight -- I use an image editor to precisely place the watermark and to change its opacity to a specific level == those photos got left out of the process inadvertently, but they are picts that I've taken. I've 4800 iris picts in all, and there's bound to be a few that got missed Smiling
