I'm in Wisconsin and just received my daylily order from brecks (forgive me I ordered before I found this website!!). It's starting to cool off. Does anyone have suggestions for planting daylilies so late in Wisconsin?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I live a lot further south and we use October 1 as the latest to plant or transplant.

I recommend getting yours in the ground asap and mulch heavily. Hopefully, someone from your area will chime in, but I'd say you don't have any time to waste.

I planted them this morning. Got them last night. I don't anticipate them doing well. I did mulch with wood chips but I'll probably mulch with leaves once more fall. Thanks for your response!

@Cpschult

I am in michigan, zone 5-6 and I would not think twice about planting daylilies in October.

They should do just fine.

Thanks frank! I can hope. My wife had me label where I put them in case they don't make it.

That is a great idea. I just planted some allium and daffodil bulbs and marked the spot in case they don't come up.

I always mark the spot that I plant because I have a tendency to "double" plant:)

So a little update. I had been wrong about three of them; here lies butch, French lingerie, and one I forgot. Not sure if it was the spring or I thought a weed was the daylily coming through. Either way they didn't make it.

I did get bloom from one though. Disappointed to say the least! Get jiggy? More like get jerked around amirite?

Looks to me like it could be Get Jiggy. There is the start of a pattern and the rest looks right. Not all patterns show up if the conditions aren't right. I have Incendiary and it has not given me much of a pattern yet (2nd year) and I doubt I ever will see it except on very rare occasions. But I like it well enough without the pattern so I don't mind.

I agree, it very well could be Get Jiggy. Patterns can vary, if you look in the NGA database entry for Get Jiggy you will see images that look a lot like yours. Give it a chance to settle in, the pattern might get better.

I'm hopeful but I've read a bit about their prop system and doubt I'll see it. Fingers crossed I guess!

I don't even think about patterned daylilies. Most of them come from lines which exhibit 'canoeing', and they seem to require luxuriant conditions in order to display the patterning which makes them special.

@Cpschult What about their prop system are you referring to?

I looked for the article I had read but couldn't find it. Main focus was on tissue culturing

When I got my Get Jiggy from Brecks, it was pure white. Some of the others I ordered were very tiny. What with the raccoons and all, I lost them right away.
