When you go house hunting do you like the rooms to have furniture or do you like a blank slate?

A loved one past and since the furniture was new and I read that people like staged houses..........

I decided to stage the home and remove personal items. Put up some artwork and Knick-knack from my stash at home. It looks really good getting lots of good feed back from the Real Estate Agents BUT........ the buyers are acting like it is a furniture store. They want the furniture. or Trying to barter with furniture and price of the house to be included. It is driving me crazy. Looks like I should not have staged the house. Rolling on the floor laughing

Example......One wanted some furniture pieces that I was willing to throw in the deal but because they could not have the expensive painting I took from my home they want to not close the deal unless they get the painting and everything they selected. I am not willing to give away the painting because it was a gift from my boss before I retired and it is expensive. This is not dime store it is a signed art item.

Cinta, Sorry for your loss, but please take your painting out of the house as soon as possible.
Mostly empty. Moved well over a dozen times. Give humans to many choices and things get complicated.
Sometimes I`ll be in the state and get a chance to see how the outside property has changed/been changed by the current residents. The small tree I planted is huge. At another house the bulb garden was paved over for basketball.
Whatever you choose keep it simple. It`s all good.
Best wishes to you and yours.

I agree. We've sold many times. Sometimes the house was empty and other times it was fully furnished. It didn't seem to make a difference.Like Tisha said, it's all good.

Thank you. I took the picture down and going to Goodwill today and see if I can find something. The wall is big and it needs a commanding pic.

"Give humans to many choices and things get complicated. "

Tisha you are so right. I had to laugh because it reminded me of my mother saying Do not give humans an inch because they will take your yard stick.

I have purchased homes through the years but have only sold twice. I usually purchased to rent for income. Both the homes I sold I staged this is the first time I have had this problem. It has been over 15 yrs since I have sold property times are changing I guess.

When I was looking to buy a house...the things that did it for me were:

- a basket with yarn and a knitting project partially finished in the living room.
- a huge old frying pan hanging from a nail in the kitchen.

- out back there was a "fish sink"...an old sink attached to a shed to be used for cleaning fish or washing veggies.

I am old-fashioned so if a house has been "staged" too perfectly...I'm out there!

Funny you should mention fishing. He had fishing rods in the garage and I did not even notice them until that appeared on one of their list that if they purchased the house they wanted. He had fly fishing rods and I saw some bamboo rods, a box of vintage fishing lures,

I inherited a bunch of old fishing stuff from my dad. We don't fish anymore. We got spoiled by the deep sea fishing in the Marshall Islands, so the lakes, rivers and creeks aren't too exciting. I ended up selling most of it on Ebay. There are a lot of collectors looking for old fishing gear.

Some things have become hard to sell on Ebay, but all of the fishing things I listed sold the first time. Good luck!

Dance with me!!!! It is sold. Closing will be the end of the month. :hurray:

I found a buyer. Ditched the other one they wanted that painting. Stuck on stupid. They came back after I found a new buyer asking if they could still buy the house. Too late. I guess they thought they could bully me into giving them the picture and all the furniture and fishing rods..

Congratulations. I love how it turned out. Seems to me people who are pushy and demanding and don't have the ability to consider others people's needs if it interferes with their own; seem to get what they want. It tickled me you were done with them when they started bartering for your belongings.

Thank you all. I cannot wait for the closing. Three months on the market and all the inspections it feels like it has been two years.
