If you love games, trivia, or prizes, you have come to the right thread!

In the past, I loved to 'host' impromptu trivia sessions with co-workers/employees. Now I'm bringing the fun right here, to my fellow seed friends with a few little prizes, to boot! Some of what will be posted will be trivia, some will be other activities. Here's how it works...

Every day I will post the trivia/activity/etc. for the day and the first person to post the correct answer/activity/etc. will be awarded the point(s). As you probably already guessed, the person with the most points at the end wins first pick of prizes.

Details:

Start date for contest: Oct. 8
End date for contest: Oct. 21
Time trivia/activity will be posted each day: varies (but will likely appear more often in the evening, so keep your eyes peeled!)

Prizes:
Thumb of 2017-10-09/DogsNDaylilies/3e83c0
Prizes are:
* 'Leaves are Falling' deco sign
* Scarecrow decoration (1 each to two different winners)
* 'Nutty Treat' suet and suet basket bird feeder
* 10 pattern telescoping hose wand
* Cracker Jack popcorn treat (1 each to 3 different winners)

...that's 8 different winners...

First place winner gets first pick of prize, second place winner gets second pick, etc. It is sort of like the NARR, although you will state your preference publicly in this forum so that the next person in line can pick their prize as soon as the person before then makes a selection. That means once you post your selection, you can't change your mind, so pick wisely! (I will be posting a picture of the prizes this afternoon and editing this post when I do.) Winners must choose their prize within 12 hours after the person before them picks. (Failure to do so means you will get whatever prize is leftover at the end.)

*Must be a member of the DnD's ALL SEEDS SWAP to participate and to win. (Prizes will be sent to you with your seeds in November.)

If I left anything out, out of you have questions, please let me know!

...and please bear with me for any hiccups that might occur. Rolling my eyes. We finally moved and things are pretty busy at the moment, but I will be checking in daily to give the new trivia/activity and see who won the point(s) from the previous one. Big Grin

Oct 8 ACTIVITY (2 Points):
Take a picture of a tree or shrub today with it's fall color, post it to the NGA (first), then post it here. (If you live somewhere where the trees have not changed color, that's okay, as long as your pictures from today or within the last 2 weeks, it counts!)

Oct 9 TRIVIA:
Where did the word "tomato" come from?

(1 point for the language/people it was derived from, 1 point for the original word itself.)

Originally "tomatl" which was Nahuatl (Aztecan) meaning "the swelling fruit"

Kind of a fun factoid!

Brad, nice job! You are on top of it!

(If you didn't already, take a look at why people didn't originally eat tomatoes.)

What is clonal? Are we cloning trees now?

I do believe it was "The Senator" a Cyprus tree that was approximately 3,500 years old. That is, until 2012 when a 26 year old fool decided to set it on fire and it burned to the ground. Grumbling

It truly saddens me that some people decide to destroy the environment so needlessly. All of you people, on the other hand, are amazing so please carry on! Smiling

Some trees, like Aspen, grow in clonal colonies. Because of the nature of the way that they grow, forming clones, they are able to live longer and so it isn't a fair comparison against individual long-lived trees. Thumbs up
