I planted cladyums from a packet of seeds. They did beautiful and the stalks had seeds and multiplied my plants. My question is. I have several bags of seeds from these plants. How do I store in the winter? Dry, freezer? I live in Alabama.

I would store them dry in the frig.

Caladiums need to be dug out when temperatures stay at and below 60 degrees F. Do not remove any soil from the bulbs yet and place them in a cool and dark area for two to three weeks. This is so the bulbs can go dormant. At this point cut the tops at a level with the soil line. Brush the soil from them and cut away rotted areas. Apply a fungicide. Store them at 50 degrees F. in a dry place. It is a good idea to add sand or sawdust in order to prevent them from drying out too much. In spring they can be planted again.

I have never seen a packet of Caladium seeds, nor seen any seeds formed when my Cals have bloomed. When I searched for Caladium seeds for sale just now, all of the results only had bulbs. Is it possible that Caladium is not the right name, or is there a whole contingent of seed-grown Cals of which I'm unaware? So curious!

After Andrea's answer, I thought perhaps Shazzythomas was thinking bulbs but said seeds. I have never seen Caladium seeds either but there's always a first time.

I'm pretty sure she is referring to bulbs and not seeds .. Caladium seeds don't stay viable for very long.

I keep all my Caladiums in pots .. I stop watering them about now then store them in their pots with the dirt in the garage. any dark place that doesn't freeze will be suitable. In the Spring, bring them outside and water the bajeebers out of them for a few days until the soil around them actually starts to hold water. Every couple of years divide them and give them some fresh soil.

If they are in the ground just dig them up and set on a table to dry out a bit (not in the sun). Once dry stick them in a paper bag and put them in a place where it doesn't freeze. Come Spring, dump them into a buck and fill the bucket with warmish water. Leave them in the bucket for about an hour then take out and plant.

If the bulbs are good quality bulbs you'll get about a 80 - 90% return.
