I rescued a dying fern and nursed it back to health this summer. I kept it in a large pot in the yard and it thrived. Not sure what it was, when it started to get cold I brought it indoors. After a couple weeks, it started to drop leaves and turn brown. Any help on identifying it so that I know how to care for it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I suspect its a Boston Fern. If so, they need high humidity and constantly damp soil.

I could be wrong. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

I agree with the Boston fern. I also may be wrong, as I am not a fern expert, but I would say if it sheds, it's a Boston. If it doesn't, it may be a Kimberly Queen, but it doesn't look quite 'upright' enough to me. I'm sticking with Boston.

My guess is Boston also. They're lovely...outside. Inside they are huge pains, shedding pieces of leaves full time. I have a vow never to get sucked into having one in the house again!

Thanks everyone. I thought it might be a Boston, but was hoping it was something that would survive outside through a zone 7 winter.

No such luck, but if you're in the market for an outdoor fern, Christmas ferns are hardy in your zone and are quite similar, actually.

It looks more like Kimberly Queen to me, too. The photo is taken from above. If you take a side view pic, we likely could determine the correct name.
