While moving my plants in this past weekend, I encountered this little guy.

He was 5/8" long and perched on a piece of pinestraw. We had some strong winds and I wondered if it blew him down from one of the tall pines.

Does anyone recognize him?

What will this caterpillar grow up to be?

It looks like a Spiny Oak Slug caterpillar, Euclea delphinii.

Hmm, that looks pretty close to what I found crawling on the rim of one of my cactus pots this morning.

That sure does resemble it. I wonder if male/female are different. Let me edit to say I wonder if they are marked or colored different.

I was checking that other one and thought it looked like an Io moth.
